Also, the batteries in my pacemakers have lasted 7-11 years. Of course they have no intention of changing the battery, they just change the whole device.

Newer smoke detector batteries last about 10 years and are one and done. My understanding is the wires to the heart don't need to be replaced unless more wires are needed.

That is correct. However, about 6 months ago they issued a recall for my wires into the heart because they might have developed too much resistance. I went in and they upped the shock level but I wasn't shocked.

When they replaced the device the other day, they tested the wires and mine are OK, so they didn't change them out.
