If Southern states continue to grow at the same pace that they have since 2020, the South’s national political influence could grow significantly when congressional seats are reapportioned after the 2030 census.
A new analysis of U.S. Census data by the Brennan Center finds that, based on population growth in the South between 2020-2025, Southern states could add up to nine congressional seats and the same number of Electoral College votes for president after the 2030 census numbers are tallied.
However, the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration — a key driver of the South’s growth — as well as questions about the U.S. Census Bureau’s ability to accurately capture population data make projections of the region's political gains challenging.
The South’s growing clout
After the U.S. census count every 10 years, the number of U.S. House seats for each state is adjusted to match changes in population, a process called reapportionment. Every House seat gained also adds to each state’s number of Electoral College votes for electing the president.
As the population of many Southern states has boomed in recent decades, the nation’s political gravity has steadily shifted to the South. Since the 2000 census, Southern states have seen a net gain of 15 House seats and Electoral College votes.
Florida and Texas account for 13 of those added seats, Georgia and North Carolina picked up a combined five seats, and South Carolina added one in that 20-year span. The South’s gains have been mildly tempered by small declines in Louisiana, Mississippi, and West Virginia, which together have lost four seats since 2000.

So gather ‘round, now gather ‘round chillin’, get down
Well just get down chillin’, get loud
Well you can be loud and be proud
An’ you can be proud, here now, be proud you’re a Rebel
‘Cause the South’s gonna do it again and again
The South of those days is pretty much gone.
Oh, you’re no fun anymore.
I hate to agree with ttf on literally anything, but the South is being infested with Skankees whose companies are fleeing south because of lefty politics, but brining their lefty workforce along with them yo vote for the very crap that ruined their own states. Locusts, basically.

Actually, it's the new incarnation of the carpetbaggers.
Won by 4 million votes but lost seats in the House.
I think it’s deliberate to make things as miserable as possible. NY will stay blue even with the business flight to the south. The idea is to turn the south blue. Remote work where they can work and live anywhere they want is the democrat’s friend.
This is assuming there’s an honest census in 2030.
Whilst the south is indeed rising, the northeast and CA/WA/OR are firmly establishing themselves as the true successors to Hitler (which is why they constantly accuse trump of being the Nazi).
Thus the dems’ attempt to turn Georgia into a swing state.
Leftists in the Census bureau deliberately undercounted Southern states in 2020. They didn’t mention it in this article but everybody knows eastern North Carolina was significantly undercounted. An accurate and fair census would very likely result in North Carolina and Alabama each gaining seats - in addition to Missouri.
Some other notes....Missouri could be argued to be a Southern state along with Oklahoma. Nobody in the South considers West Virginia to be a Southern State.
It’s mostly the urban south that’s growing..liike Atlanta. But also Florida which helps balance it out at the national level.
The trick is keeping all these states red. Because as more liberals move out of the states that they ruined to greener pastures in southern states, they unfortunately are too stupid for self reflection and then proceed to do the same thing over
Despite bazillions of Yankees these past twenty years.
