Former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL), who resigned from Congress before she was officially expelled, is doing something so shameless, so typical of D.C., and, I hate to admit it, something quite funny: she’s running for re-election to her old seat. It creates another headache for Democrats, as Sheila was engulfed in a scandal, where she reportedly stole millions in relief aid from FEMA. It was a lengthy investigation by the House Ethics Committee, and it became clear she was done when the most vocal left-wingers on the Hill were calling for her removal (via NOTUS):
"Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, the embattled, now-former congresswoman who resigned from Congress this week ahead of potential expulsion, plans to defiantly run for reelection.
Cherfilus-McCormick filed on April 17 to run again for her seat, and a campaign aide confirmed to NOTUS she is running — as a Democrat.
Cherfilus-McCormick stepped down from office Tuesday, a half hour before the House Ethics Committee was scheduled to recommend punishment on an array of charges. The panel had previously found her guilty of 25 ethics violations, including allegedly stealing $5 million dollars in federal disaster-aid funds used to bolster her 2021 campaign as well as campaign-finance violations.
The committee had been investigating Cherfilus-McCormick for two years, issuing 58 subpoenas, interviewing 28 witnesses and reviewing over 33,000 documents.
Cherfilus-McCormick also faces criminal charges regarding the federal relief funds she received during the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this month, a judge granted her a trial-date extension to February 2027.
In the meantime, she’s running for the south Florida seat. Cherfilus-McCormick did not respond to a request for comment Friday evening.
Her resignation left the 20th Congressional District seat vacant and it is unclear when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to fill the vacancy. The Republican-led Legislature is also debating whether to redraw district maps in the state."
The one thing about this game—it’s never boring. Well, unless Joe Biden is president, then it’s like watching paint dry, since that man was half-dead.

She’s betting that the dems will take over the house in the fall, and won’t pursue action against her if she wins.
She will probably gain street cred for sticking it to whitey, and win.
She is a Black female Democrat so it’s allowed.
And she will WIN because DEMOCRATS have NO SHAME!!
Black female.....White man’s racist laws don’t apply to her.
You’d be shocked to find out how many blacks believe that.
It is a near term financial strategy. She can make use of campaign funds to cover expenses. Not forever, but at least through the end of the campaign reporting cycle.
I knew of a fellow in Atlanta who ran for congress in three districts in three different states (GA, MI and HI) in the same election year. He was an independent candidate in each state, finished dead last, or very close to dead last in each state. He got publicity only for the novelty of it. I assume he wanted to travel to each state and vacation there, and the absurd nominal cloak of being on the ballot allowed him to spend “campaign funds” on it.
This Florida Rep. is as corrupt as the day is long. Whoever replaces her in that district will continue the tradition.

And if she wins, she can’t be prosecuted while in office, so the case goes away.

If the Ethics committee is currently unable to present their report due to her absence, aren’t they still entitled to present their report on the day she returns to office?
If they can impeach a president after he left office, to prevent him from returning, why can’t you expel a member after they have resigned?
The government needs to appeal that judge’s decision to move her case to 2027. She should be in jail!
There ain’t no shame in their game. She learned from Trayon White, the DC council member who was caught on camera taking bribes, was expelled by the council, then ran for and won his seat back. And, of course, Trayon learned from OG Marion Barry.
Can they press charges against her?
That was then. This is now.
If Marion Barry can do it , no reason this sister can’t !
Missing millions, hah ! Trifles, mere trifles.
She certainly knows her constituency.
She wants more millions and she wants the Sucker voters help her out . Has she been charged yet ?
