Nearly three in five Canadians support the idea of Canada joining the European Union, a new poll suggests.
A Nanos Research survey conducted for The Globe and Mail shows that 57 per cent of respondents would either support (28 per cent) or somewhat support (29 per cent) Canada becoming a full member of the EU.
The results also show that 32 per cent of respondents were either opposed or somewhat opposed to the idea, while 12 per cent were unsure.
The results follow similar findings from a Spark Advocacy poll conducted in March, suggesting that one in four respondents thought joining the EU would be a good idea, with an additional 58 per cent saying the idea should be considered further.
“Canadians are re-examining their place in the world,” pollster Nik Nanos said. “We’re at a moment in time where Canadians want to have free trade with the U.S., and they want to have closer relations with the European Union. “For Canadians in an ideal world, they’d have both.”
The survey results come at a time of heightened tension between Canada and the U.S., particularly over a wave of new American tariffs on Canadian imports. U.S. President Donald Trump has at times threatened to use “economic force” to make Canada the 51st state. Canada’s trading relationship with the U.S. is currently the subject of negotiations about the future of the North American free-trade agreement, which also includes Mexico.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has said his government is focused on expanding trade with other countries, a point he made this week at a groundbreaking ceremony for a port expansion project near Montreal.

Onward, Canucks.
Our POTUS will veto this idea and never let it come to fruition.
- EU has open migration between states, to include non native migrants and Muslims of every stripe.
- Like, The Monroe Doctrine, dude.
Nearly 60% of Canadians New Englanders support becoming a full member of the European Union ...
Retards
This is a ridiculous survey. The Globe and Mail is a Toronto paper. I find it doubtful that the polling sample is representative of the country. The prairie provinces are already so oppressed by Ontario and Quebec that an attempt to pile on by joining the EU would make things far worse. So, in Alberta it would be 80-20 against (the 20 coming from NDP socialists in Calgary and Edmonton), in Ontario and likely Quebec, 70-30 for (Quebec might like the idea of reducing UK’s role, and in having other French speaking nations as part of the group.) Any attempt to force this could lead to an overt rupture.
Are they going to physically move Canada across the Atlantic Ocean? Last I checked, Canada had never been a European nation, but then I am not the best at world Georgraphy.
Is Australia a European nation too?
How about China?
LOL Those poor Canadians. Keep them up north. Get them out of our country.
The Europeans need someplace to dump the glut of illegal immigrants they are bursting at the seams with... After the UK fills up with them, which at the current rate of boat loads they receive daily should happen within the decade or so, Canada is the next logical place to start sending them.
How does that poll in Alberta?
If this is true, is anything stopping them from just emigrating to the UK or France and guaranteeing their bliss in the EU?
Polls are crap
We get Greenland in exchange.
Who wants to tip them off they are not in Europe?
No bailout.
Barely half of Canadians support becoming a full member of the European Union, poll says.
Canadians just about evenly split over whether or not to become full members of the European Union.
Just testing out more honest headlines…
the EU already includes parts of North America, a part of South America, and parts of Africa.
St. Pierre et Miquelon is still a part of France, and they are just off the coast of Newfoundland.
I thought 60% of Canadians wanted to join the Chinese Communist Party?
