Mexican national arrested for driving semi truck without CDL, slamming into school bus in WA triggering 6-vehicle pileup

A Mexican national was arrested Thursday after Washington State Patrol said he caused a six-vehicle pileup on Interstate 5 in Lacey when the car-hauling semi he was driving without a commercial driver's license slammed into the back of a school bus just after 7:00 am on I-5 near Martin Road in Lacey.

Authorities identified the driver as Juan Hernandez-Santos, 40, of Huentitlan, Mexico, and said four people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Troopers said there were two adults on the school bus at the time of the crash, but no students were on board.

Troopers said Hernandez-Santos did not have a commercial driver’s license, insurance, or a valid medical card, documents required for the legal operation of a commercial rig. Trooper Kameron Watts described the wreck as involving “a lot of negligence” and said commercial vehicle enforcement officers were dispatched to conduct a full inspection of the truck and the paperwork commercial drivers are required to carry. Troopers also cited speed too fast for conditions and following too closely as contributing factors.

i personally had one of these subcontracted car-hauler rigs come out to my place to haul a valuable car, and it was driven by a russian who couldn’t speak english ... no paperwork, no insurance, no receipt, no nothing: dude was just gonna load up my car and split ... i sent him packing and told my nephew to hire a legit hauler, i wasn’t going to deal with illegal fly-by-night haulers again ...

I believe it. Not only is the Post Office delivering mail in non-postal-service vehicles, but the people I’ve seen delivering in those vehicles are Hispanic or Middle Eastern looking types. And it’s not only the Post Office. A guy in an unmarked white van left off a package on my neighbor’s doorstep without saying a word (I was standing right there) and left. It was actually a package for the neighbor on the other side . An Hispanic type. Can’t read English, perhaps?

Why are these companies getting let off the hook? This guy did not purchase his own truck The DMV is out of control but the government is out of control esp in that state.

You are correct. Trucking companies hire these people because they are cheaper. These companies have responsibility for the havoc THEY create. Aside from direct costs of these accidents they need to be fined for willing hiring substandard and often illegal drivers.

I am a pilot and if I went to a new FBO and tried to rent an aircraft they would happily do so, after I took a check ride with them and not before.
