I own the book and as a person with a historical mindset, it’s one of the most nonsensical books posing as history I’ve read. Which is saying a lot, because I’ve read many trash history books over the last 40+ years.
The violent punk/math genius in the movie “Good Will Hunting” liked it, but that dude didn’t have a clue about history.
An exceptional prodigy in certain academic fields, but a complete moron in studies beyond his comprehension.
A People’s History of the United States has the distinction of being the only book I’ve thrown away.

Zinn was hugely popular when I was a youngster. Homeschooled, I didn’t read any history textbook written before around 1970. Still haven’t gotten around to reading him.
Another regrettable author is Joy Hakim. Easily found in book stores, lots of glossy photos, but an “idiot’s guide” would be superior history. She’s a lefty and no serious historian.

While the schools that MY CHILDREN attend use Howard Zinn’s books and are turning my children into Communists, that’s ok, because they will NOT turn me into a Communist, and besides that, the schools are FREE, and that’s all that counts to me.
