Rethinking Healthcare Reform: Lessons Learned from Israel

While a number of industrialized nations provide health care through a single payer (government run) system, others have made a public-private system the model they use to guarantee health services to all their citizens.

One of those nations is Israel which (as it turns out) has a lot to teach the United States on how to operate a universal health system that is based on both private and public inputs.

Israel adopted its national health system in 1995 requiring all permanent residents be provided a standard basket of services including physician care, hospitalization, prescription drugs and dental care for children

Healthcare is paid for by a combination of earmarked health tax payments, funding from the Ministry of Health and copayments paid when services are delivered

Four sick funds or HMO's act as the insurance plan for all residents. Persons can freely choose any of the sick funds and can access any physician or hospital in the plan. The sick funds may offer supplemental coverage that is highly regulated.

Health coverage for every resident of Israel is accomplished for 8.7% of GDP in contrast to the US cost of 17.6% where there are almost 51 million without health insurance

By virtually all commonly used indicators including life expectancy and maternal and child health measures, Israel far outperforms the US.

An electronic health record ties together all the patient information for each of the four health plans and is accessible to physicians, hospitals and patients

This is not to say that the healthcare system in Israel is flawless and could not be improved.

Obviously America has a much more complicated landscape, and what works somewhere else doesn’t mean it will here. But still, it’s worth noting how other places operate.

* Also worth noting that - abortions - are funded in Israel with some restrictions, as are some ‘gender-affirming’ therapies & procedures. Feel free to look it up. So there are catches…

Israelis, and much of the developed world don’t eat the same unhealthy hyper-processed food as USA, nor have adopted the same unhealthy lifestyle patterns that have sadly become the norm for this country.

There are so many reasons unconstitutional gov’t healthcare should be abolished.

Here is a sampling of reasons:

1) Gov’t takeover of healthcare is unconstitutional and, thus, illegal. Nowhere does the Constitution delegate power to the feds to meddle in healthcare.

3) Gov’t healthcare puts your individual healthcare in the hands of distant, indifferent, and non-medial D.C. bureaucrats and politicians who of course as middlemen must be paid and, thus, increasing the cost of healthcare. The HHS bureaucracy has a budget of $1 trillion.

4) The highest quality, most affordable, and most available healthcare in the world is what we had in the voluntary cooperation DIRECTLY between doctor and patient before the gov’t muscled in in the 50’s and 60’s with its “helping hand” hand out and a hammer behind his back! As Ronald Reagan said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I’m from the Government, and I’m here to help’”.

5) Gov’t hammer? What hammer? Forced vaccines, forced abortions, forced treatment all by distant politicians and bureaucrats who are not medical experts and do not know you personally.

6) Gov’t agenda vs. your own personal agenda. Who cares more about your health? You? Or some distant politician and bureaucrat who doesn’t know you from Adam and frankly couldn’t care less about you personally?

7) No one cares more about your health than you. Why in the world would you take your personal healthcare and your personal choices in the self interest of your health and wellbeing out of the hands of the DIRECT relationship between you and the doctor of your choosing who knows and cares about you, and instead put your healthcare in the hands gov’t politicians and bureaucrats who don’t know you, have the power to force you to do what they want, and who have their own agenda which includes “culling” the “overpopulation” - so gov’t has a bias toward death.

8) “Healthcare” availability based on gov’t budgeting – a potential disaster. Long lines and long waiting time for procedures immediately available under free market healthcare directly between doctor and patient.
Ongoing government shutdown hinders healthcare providers during flu season

9) That is a short list. There’s more but why would anyone need more reasons? NUKE UNCONSTITUTIONAL GOV’T HEALTHCARE!!!

The Three Killer Foods are:
1. Liquid seed oils like canola, corn oil, crisco, vegetable oil, etc.
2. Sugar in all its forms.
3. Refined carbohydrates.

In other words: The Donut.

The other health killers are prescription medicine overload, excessive alcohol, and recreational drugs.

The reason countries in Europe, Israel etc. can have state health care is the US taxpayer is underwriting their militaries. Left on their own, their medical plans would be a bottle of Tylenol.

The parasitic document read by taxpayersL: “Always demanding more tax dollars, Israel has long defined US tax dollars as “important” to its own national interests. Israel even “claims” it helps the United States meet security challenges through close cooperation .........yet 9/11 was planned in Israel’s backyard and the US heard not a peep about it.”

The US got no 9/11 warning from “its greatest ally in the parasitic Mideast.”

Israel functions as family. Lots of social arrangements there cannot be extrapolated to America.

BTW, 25% or so of MDs, nurses and dentists in Israel are Arabs, as are 50% of pharmacists.

Israel was extremely socialist in its origins. And it likely would have remained that way if Israel’s first envoy to the USSR, Mme. Golda Meir, hadn’t been shut down bluntly by Stalin when she asked for the millions of Soviet Jews to be allowed to “make Aliya” to Israel. And when socialism gets beaten back, it NEVER dies down, it only licks its wounds and bides its time.

Israel still survives on an agricultural base stemming from the original communal “kibbutz” farms.

And it ‘technically’ is a secular government, but that only means there are legal protections for all religions. It still is a nation of, for and by the Jews (and I got no problem with that).

Not to mention world-wide Jewery tends to be socialist, in no small part because of the Torah’s requirements to perform charity.

Long story short, there NO reason to believe that anything that works in Israel could be adapted to work in THE one and only, never been anything BUT secular, United States of America.

Israel has only 9.5 mil people. Size matters.

We have 350 million people and a large % of non contributors to the system. Plus we subsidize health services allowing for extremely high base prices that have no basis in reality but serve to raise the cost for all. [EG: a procedure list cost as xx. Insurance + copays pay x. Not even close to xx. So what is the cost of the procedure?]
