President Truman’s daughter Margaret was playing piano in the second floor fitting room of the White House in 1948. As she played, the leg of a Grand Piano crashed through the floor. It could be seen sticking out of the ceiling in the family dining room below. This was the final straw in a decades overdue renovation of the White House.

This was before crazies like Schumer and Hakeem entered congress and started to spread mayhem and chaos.

Based on the artist's drawings of the new ballroom it is massive and takes away the actual White House being the main focus.
However, I was watching Glenn Beck talking to his co-host. “Have you been to Washington D.C. lately? It isn't like before where you could walk in front of the White House. Now it is blocked off from 2 blocks away. Lots of new trees. The only thing you can see is the front of the White House. You won't even be able to see the new ballroom from the street.”
So that dispelled my only complaint about the new building. Trump also told Beck that it would be finished by this coming spring. I find that really hard to believe. but maybe. A huge delay in most construction is the permitting process.
Trump told Beck he asked the White House architects on what it would take to build it. Well, first I would need a plan, and then apply for permits, and get those approved. So I asked him who approves the permits. He told me I do! I'm the President. So yeah, I told them what I wanted, they came up with some designs, and I approved the one I liked!”

I saw that segment too. Trump explained how when visiting other heads of states, their palaces are incredible . They equate grandeur and wealth with power. So, He wants the White House to display power in a language they understand during diplomatic visits.

From what I read the current facility only holds 250 people, clearly that is not big enough. Plenty of very ordinary people have weddings with 500 guests.
Remember how they went after Nancy Reagan for buying new china? The media is public enemy #1, and has been for a long, long, time.

Yep.
“The media is public enemy #1, and has been for a long, long, time.”
Oh yes.

Trump is going to drag his big, beautiful ballroom in front of Schumer’s face until he quits. AOC will try to run the ‘Rats in the Senate. The Democrat Party will degenerate into the Party of Screaming AWFULs.
To: Empire_of_Liberty
Enough room for both the House and Senate.
Would the Dems stay home if the first Dinner in the Ball Room was for Congress?
Yes...They're that stupid.
To: SmokingJoe
The people whining about the ballroom should vow to NEVER set foot in its glorious splendor.
That’ll show Trump.

A few years ago, I visited the Truman Library in Independence, MO, where they had a display on the White House renovation during the Truman years.
After the piano nearly fell through the 2nd story floor, Harry had the structural engineers/architects survey the condition of the WH and make a recommendation on what should be done.
They came back and reported the option that made the most economic sense was to demolish the WH and build a new one. Truman rejected that, saying we are NOT going to tear down the WH, no matter how much it cost.
And so that is what they did. It took a lot more money and time, but the original White House (the exterior) was saved.
To: Dan in Wichita
That is often the case, tearing down and starting new.
Having done several rehabs, making things “work” as opposed to starting fresh is a pain and expensive

Folks: This is an utterly brilliant article from AMAC yesterday
(LINK: The Left’s Trump Derangement Syndrome Escalates With Meltdown Over White House Expansion The contrast they present is so striking and obvious, that I cannot even feel anger. It made me laugh, how vapidly stupid it makes the media look.
I decided to summarize this excellent article for FR, so if you want to see how deranged and double-standardized the Left of today is, from the Leftists in government, to their collaborative Leftist Media, to the "Rank and File" Leftists on the street screeching in outrage, watch these two links in quick succession:

LINK: CNN covers the 2010 Obama renovation of the White House that cost $376 million dollars and added a basketball court.

LINK: CNN covers the 2025 Trump renovation of the East Wing projected to cost $300 million dollars to add a ball room and upgrade the Presidential Bunker.
Compare the facial expressions on the CNN talking head both then, and now. They were happy and joyful in 2010, that was so much fun, and today, it is the end of democracy as we know it! This is so stark it is hilarious.
And the Leftist Media, particularly CNN, wonders why fewer and fewer people are tuning in to hear what they have to say.

"...Trump also told Beck that it would be finished by this coming spring. I find that really hard to believe. but maybe. A huge delay in most construction is the permitting process..." This is Trump...and doing things like this on-time and under budget is his claim to fame, as this excerpt told by (DR. JON'S ICU-INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION UNDERGROUND)
(excerpt)"...In 1980 the Central Park Wollman Ice Skating rink in New York City was closed for renovations when it’s concrete base cracked and buckled. A renovation was expected to cost up to $4.9 million dollars and take 2 years. The typical bidding nightmare took place, work was started but flooding problems and renovation problems soon developed. Are you ready for this? By May of 1986 the project STILL wasn’t done. $12.9 million had been spent, with an additional $2 to $3 million estimated to complete the work by the winter of 1987!
Along comes Donald Trump who offered mayor Ed Koch to rebuild Wollman Rink at HIS expense WITHIN 6 MONTHS in return for the leases to operate the rink and an adjacent restaurant to recoup his costs. The final agreement was that the city would reimburse Trump for the costs up to the agreed limit and that he would donate the profits of rink and restaurant to charity and public works. Trump asked his contractors to also do the work WITHOUT MAKING A PROFIT, promising them publicity but not mentioning their contributions to the press afterwards. The work was completed TWO MONTHS ahead of schedule and $750,000 under the estimated costs..."
Don't be surprised if Trump meets the deadline. Heck, who thought he could secure the border in just a few weeks after taking office, but he did it.

"...It took a lot more money and time, but the original White House (the exterior) was saved..." Apart from Truman's decision to drop nuclear weapons and end WWII, I overall dislike Truman, but this was a good and right decision by him.

No one said a peep about Obama’s $376 million White House renovation, fully funded by taxpayers.
Unlike President Trump’s $250 million ballroom he’s paying for himself.

It is sad that heads of state visiting the White House were entertained in a tent on the south lawn. Trump remedied this without a single dime of taxpayers money creating a state function facility befitting a great nation. The Democrats are howling with indignation even being so ridiculous as to demand it be torn down, likely at taxpayers expense, should they come to power. Hypocritically not a peep when Obama made extensive renovations on the taxpayer’s dime in 2010.
