An online anarchist platform encouraged people on Wednesday to shine lasers at federal helicopters in Portland, Oregon, a crime that law enforcement officials say can create extreme danger for pilots.
A post on the leftist, Portland-focused website “Rose City Counter-Info” tells viewers to scatter throughout the city’s streets on Saturday for the attack — nicknamed “Laser Tag” — as federal agents respond to demonstrations near the city’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility. The goal is to “ground” the helicopters by making it difficult to safely fly them and flash too many lasers for law enforcement to hunt down those using them, according to the anonymously-written post.
“All you need is a laser. Leave home – they can see where the laser is coming from,” the post reads. “Go to a park, a field, or some other public place, and once the clock strikes 9 unleash your beam at the cop copter. Mask up. Coordinate with friends to throw a laser party!”
“Let’s take back the night together!” the announcement continued. “It won’t take many of us to ground the helicopters!”
The post also tells allies to wear gloves and clean their laser pointers with alcohol in case they must dispose of it. A link in the text offers tips on keeping one’s DNA off an object.
Rose City Counter-Info did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) previously called out the website in July for “doxxing” ICE officers by publishing their names and home addresses. The agency promised prosecutions for such activity.
Federal prosecutors also charged a man with the crime of aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft in Portland days before the Rose City Counter-Info post, alleging he aimed it at a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) helicopter in September.
“The laser can cause blindness and spotting in vision, making it a challenge to find other aircraft and obstacles, which could lead to a catastrophic event,” an FBI agent said in a criminal complaint. One crew member in the helicopter had to avert his eyes while in flight due to the laser, the complaint said.
The DHS did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment. The FBI’s Portland office declined to comment in an automated email response, citing the ongoing government shutdown.
President Donald Trump is pushing to bring National Guard troops to Portland over months of chaotic anti-ICE protests, which have corresponded with nearly 150 arrests near the local ICE facility. Oregon and Portland are jointly challenging his plan in court.
Other tactics by the protest mobs have included forcing homeless people to help distract or confront law enforcement at the ICE facility, according to Portland police.
Protesters should no longer tolerate “the federal regime” spying on them from helicopters, the Wednesday post declares.
“Actions that aim at destroying the capacity of our enemies to enforce control in simple and concrete ways can make more daring actions possible,” it says.

Time to use live ammunition. If laser is detected, a few rounds of 50 cal should nip that.

I see no problem with that. It should do the trick..sounds good to me. They certainly can’t just sit by and let them use the lasers. They may space out thinking it will be impossible for law enforcement to spot/catch them but from a high vantage point, it should work.
They need to put a stop to it at the source advising people to take up the lasers. Send the message NOW!

Absolutely if while the round is in flight you realize it’s blue on blue you can pull the round off target and avoid the collateral damage. You could also send a self destruct signal to a fuse carrying round blow it up early and well outside casualty range or if too close safe it and impact it was far off target as you can guide it in what time is left. It give a nonlethal option with prox rounds and CS gas or similar nerve agents that just incapacitate vs kill. The vomit rounds are cool too.

The Army and darpa tested the 338 Lapua off a drone it could make hits at 2000 meters reliably it was specifically developed to eliminate collateral damage. The rifle is hard mounted to a gryo stabilized platform that is 6 axis stable the drone is also hovering with gyros and centimeter level GPS guidance. The gimble is ranging the target continuously with a laser that not only reads range it scans the air path with doppler lidar <this was classified tech not too long ago. That lidar can not only sense cross winds but also the downwards of the helo and winds to and from the flight path. All of this is being used to just like an Abrams tank round compute an IIP that’s instantaneous impact point. Humans could never manually achieve this level of ballistic calculations in the millisecond time scale. There is a very low chance of a 338 or 50 cal round getting blown far enough off target by a gust only once the round is in flight. With a wide enough lidar scan sectors the sensor sees the whole area wind field and a gust is seen as it comes to the flight path and a correction man-made before the round flies. All that is not needed if you go to an EXACO type guided round it homes in on a laser spot wind drop and rotor wash is irrelevant. Drones can fly above , and between building’s in total darkness and zero visibility on real-time RTK dual M code GPS that is very hard to jam.
If the military wanted to field sniper helo drones the tech is mature and the risk of blue on blue or blue on greens is very low.

Mount a 24” spear on the front and six 24” blades off the side and ram into upper body of those commies a four foot wide at 100mph plus that’s faster than humans can swing a samurai sword which mythbusters showed was about 50 mph for the blade midpoint.
At 100mph that drone and it’s swords are cutting that person in half or removing the arms and head of it’s a near miss. Nasty stuff.
