BRISTOL, CT — ESPN will bring its 45 years of sports coverage to a close as it shifts to exclusively covering the WNBA.
After originating the 24-hour sports news cycle and becoming a household staple behind its flagship show "Sportscenter", the network had steadily moved away from sports over the past decade to start covering the WNBA. With ESPN canceling its contract with Major League Baseball, the network has officially shut down its last relationship with a sports league.
"We want to bring our audience something besides sports. We want to bring them the WNBA," announced ESPN President James Pitaro. "No more athletes, no more competition. Just round-the-clock coverage of women's basketball. It's a new era for ESPN."
In lieu of its former "Top 10 Plays", ESPN will instead air clips of the WNBA players almost making layups. "Look at those moves, gettin' to the hoop, and OH! SHE CAUGHT SOME BACKBOARD!" shouted new anchor Julia Hemboldt. "And our top play of the week... watch as Angel Reese tries to throw an inbounds pass and HITS THE RIM! DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?!"
At publishing time, ESPN had confirmed that it still would air soccer.

Okay, but no more women announcers, analysts and hosts. Enough is enough!
The WNBA is most DEI thing ever - after Kamala Harris’s “career”.
Spot on.
The Meriden Falcons professional women’s softball was a thing. With star Joan Joyce pitching they won the championship!
You don’t count Minor League Baseball? West Haven Yankees, Waterbury Rock Cats, Norwich Navigators?
Losing the Whalers was a big deal. Faithful fan base.
Do you remember when evil Lowell Weicker tried to make a pitch for the “New England Patriots”? The funny thing is, before Brady, despite the the Pats claim to New England, the New York Football Giants were the dominant team among Connecticut fans. Massachusetts folks had cared more about the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and even Doug Flutie than the Patriots. I assume that is different now. Building a dynasty will do that.
Add a word that starts with "h" and you have BLEAH. Which is the perfect description.
Also, are male reporters allowed to be in the locker rooms? Are there any that want to be? 😃
He’s not president anymore.
I think Clark is being held in protective custody.
Norm was a real gem!
curling is fun when its two asian nations playing one another- listening to them scream is worth the price of admission...
Kinda like when MTV decided to do away with music?
Naw. Clark is on the politically disabled list.
Not satire
How about women’s tetherball?
I find it suspicious that when Indiana Fever played in the semifinals recently and CC was still "injured".
Dad said that he was thinking of buying shares of ESPN when they were starting. The network was supposed to air two things - Hartford Whalers games and UConn sports. The founder of ESPN was employed by the Whalers. (Got to see if Dad still got the book abound the founding of ESPN. I read it about 10 years ago ..
Well, THAT I’d watch - arms in the ayer like they just don’t cayer...
I think that’s an injury holdout. Her own coach doesn’t defend her from the rough play and the poor refereeing. It’s only a matter of time before another goon really takes her out.
