Human skin DNA fertilised to make embryo for first time
BBC ^ | September 30, 2025 | James Gallagher

US scientists have, for the first time, made early-stage human embryos by manipulating DNA taken from people's skin cells and then fertilising it with sperm.

The technique could overcome infertility due to old age or disease, by using almost any cell in the body as the starting point for life.

It could even allow same-sex couples to have a genetically related child.

The method requires significant refinement - which could take a decade - before a fertility clinic could even consider using it.

Experts said it was an impressive breakthrough, but there needed to be an open discussion with the public about what science was making possible.

Reproduction used to be a simple story of man's sperm meets woman's egg. They fuse to make an embryo, and nine months later a baby is born.

Now scientists are changing the rules. This latest experiment starts with human skin.

The Oregon Health and Science University research team's technique takes the nucleus – which houses a copy of the entire genetic code needed to build the body – out of a skin cell.

This is then placed inside a donor egg that has been stripped of its genetic instructions.

So far, the technique is like the one used to create Dolly the Sheep – the world's first cloned mammal – born back in 1996.

The big circle is the egg viewed under a microscope, the white dot at the bottom is the genetic material taken from a skin cell and placed inside

However, this egg is not ready to be fertilised by sperm as it already contains...

><

As is this would be just wonderful?

Near as I can tell from the article all they have managed to do is jam some DNA into an egg cell with no prospect of anything else happening, like mitosis.

Genetically related? It would be a clone of the cell donor.

Paging Elon Musk....

"It could even allow same-sex couples to have a genetically related child."

Strip away all the other happy talk and this is what its about.
Its the parallel to cutting off a penis and using part of a colon to make a vagina, and somehow that turns a man into a woman. It does nothing of the sort, but helps keep maintain the delusion.

Children are gift from God, not an item to be ordered from Amazon. Accept that gift as God intends to give it, or withhold it. His will be done.

These eggs contain a complete human genome = human.

They are actively dividing from egg
to embryo = alive = being.

So what is happening to all of these human beings that are created during these experiments and refinements?

I’m sure they’ll call it culling or discarding, as happens regularly in IVF, but the only accurate word to describe destroying innocent human life, is murder.

Pray without ceasing,

Love,

O2

I’m too frightened to imagine what kind of kid would emerge from an embryo developed from the fertilized skin of Carrot Top.

They’ve gone farther than that.

They’ve fertilized the transmogrified egg cell and seen development progress from that point.

Holy Mother Church should promptly raise hella ruckus about this.

They appear to be stuck at the point of “persuading” the transmogrified egg cell to discard half of each of the 23 chromosomes, and keep the other half, and thus be prepared for fertilization.

Otherwise it’s not a “proper” (albeit pieced together) human egg cell.

May they forever be stuck here.

Cloning tech is crucial for life extension research... a dubious goal at best :-/

Given our current level of bio-tech the only way to significantly extend life is to use clones. It is immoral to create clones to extend your life. The notion that since it is your DNA that created the clone you therefore own it and are justified in harvesting it to extend your days is reprehensible.

Nature has examples of how life extension using clones can work... conjoined twins. Some such twins have a single heart supporting two brains, and it works. Imagine growing a clone so that your brain/spine can continue to function beyond the average lifespan. It sounds like an old 1950s sci-fi movie and indeed it is that loathsome and creepy. In the case of conjoined twins their lifespan is not longer since both twins are the same age... but take the case of an 80+ year old and a fresh clone of say 12yrs of age and by combining the two you can indeed extend the life of the 80+ year old by sacrificing the young twin :-/

The proposed system would involve growing the clones to an age where their cardiovascular and immune system will be able to carry the load for the patient.

This results in a very fragile system that cannot function unless it is in a sterile environment and constantly attended... somewhat like those old iron lungs that people lived in, sometimes for decades.

The solution for being bound to all the support gear is to use avatars to give remote senses and mobility.. The hard part is the neuro interface to allow for this remote system to function properly.

To have a decent data stream to such a remote avatar would require worldwide high bandwidth coverage much like what the Starlink system will be capable of once completed.

As I said, the neural interface is the hardest part to get right and without some serious breakthroughs you are left using a system somewhat like 3D goggles and headphone/mic to utilize the data coming from the remote avatar... a very crude setup at best.

This is a troubling technology that is meant to provide a bridge to allow someone to stay alive until the technology matures beyond this crude system and they can be moved to a better system.

I wish this was just nonsense but it is not.

Three people’s genetic material are used in this process from what I can tell. A doner egg to be stripped of its dna, a skin cell and a doner sperm.

I assume even a donor sperm can be substituted but I could be wrong here.

As the two sayings go: Beauty is only skin deep. And: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The left has made it clear that they hate white people's skin. So they'll use the new process to make babies from others.

Hey look ma, I can grow genetically perfect replacement organs and body parts now, and someday when they perfect memory transfers I’ll be able to keep backups for when dementia strikes and than have it transferred into that brand new body and brain I grew. It’s one step closer to The Sixth Day becoming reality.
