You can lock your three credit reports for free.

Nobody can take out loans in your name if they are locked.

It’s the same thing LifeLock charges thirty bucks a month for.

When you need to have one checked to get a loan you can temporarily unfreeze it and give them a code to access it.

I was alerted to my SS being detected at multiple sites about 3 years ago, and the first thing I did was to freeze all 3.

I’ve kept my frozen since 2008. You would think anyone that knows anything about credit bureaus would do the same. I’ve also had Life Lock since about the same time.

This, a thousand times this.

Even if, especially if, your finances are “set” and you have no need of new credit, do this.

15 minutes to open the door for 24 or 48 hours or whatever you need.

In the meantime when one of these happens or any other mishap the thieves get nothing because they go to buy a phone or open up new credit and hit the lock.
