If America wants to expand and build an empire by occupying foreign lands and stealing their resources, then we need boots on the ground and a lot of power projection.

But we don’t want that, do we?

We know we aren’t going to be invaded. Our citizens have too many guns.

So, we’re not afraid of invasion are we?

How about bad guys far away and we want them to stop doing bad things. How can we convince them to knock it off? I say: Rods From God are about all we need at this point. Heavy deterrence, non-nuclear. No boots on the ground. I think we need to approach military matters very differently.

ICBMs are still by far cheaper than “rods from the God’s.”

“...We know we aren’t going to be invaded...”

We HAVE been invaded...by millions of illegal aliens (2020-2024)

Deportation works, but is slow....

Here is the deal, for a missile returning from space, targeting an object moving its length every 27 seconds with a kenetic ICBM warhead at anywhere between mach 3 and mach 6 means at 60 miles up one has to pick a ship and pull up to 30Gs to hit a flight deck in a time frame of 20 seconds, unlike a sea skimming missile that just covers 12 miles.

If you sink the aircraft carrier, you will have to deal with response of the 2 attack submarines attached to most patrols, and hitting picket to the aircraft carrier the Arlington Burks is like hitting the island on a aircraft carrier. Under the sea, and in small form factors have enough punch back, the navy in leaving your offense capability will be degraded.

Fact is the US treats its aircraft carriers like sovign ground, attacking them is likely to escalate to a point where nobody has a winning outlook. Most nations just deal with it, and do not poke at the whales. Does China not like it, sure. But the US navy guards world trade, and a world economy that China is highly dependent on.

Russias can sail the sea and put their ships anywhere, but they rarely do, and the real large combatants have not really moved since 1992.

America may have agreed to that for a brief period around the Spanish - American war. After WWII, American projection of power was not about occupying and stealing. It was about keeping the sea lanes open and keeping the communists from conquering the world.

Pax American has been very good for the world and for America. It has been a golden age of prosperity and technological advancement.

No, I am not afraid of invasion but I am deathly afraid of the fear of invasion.

As the isolationists in America render us more and more vulnerable, as we are more and more encircled and threatened with invasion, both conventional or nuclear, the left in America will sell fear of invasion and gain power.

No, the Chinese will not conquer America by storming the beach at San Diego, they will not have to because the left will exploit our fears that have grown as we are isolated and threatened. The left will take political power and then they will simply open the gates and let the barbarians in.

Isolationism is the sure path to tyranny.

A cute thought, but in the end, being prepared for every eventuality, of every type, is the best way to go.

I like your idea but what if we have people deeply entrenched in the leadership of our country who have allegiances to another country (in the ME) and that country requires our country to fight wars on their behalf?

Won’t we need to maintain our “boots on the ground” capability to do that?

Be careful how you answer. There is a word for people who don’t want to support that foreign nation and Im sure you don’t want to be called it.

You have to go back 80 years at this point (WW2) to when US aircraft carrier groups were last seriously challenged by an enemy capable of fighting back.

Put another way, there is likely nobody alive today that was an active participant in our last major naval engagement on even somewhat equal terms with the enemy (if so, they are close to or over 100 years old).

Now I'm not counting the endless sorties our Navy has conducted from aircraft carriers, mainly in the Middle East, to bomb targets in places like Iraq and Somalia over the decades. Never once was any of our aircraft carriers in any serious danger during those attacks. You have to go back to WW2 to the last time when our carriers were in any real danger of being attacked and sunk.

In modern times, just one of our eleven carrier groups carries more combined firepower than most nations on earth.

The deterrence effect of these massive carrier groups is immeasurable. How many wars have we successfully avoided by just placing one of our carrier groups in a "hot" area? We will never know.

This is why I think the era of the Aircraft Carrier is far from over. Especially if they develop defense systems against the missles mentioned in the article.

In an era of hypersonic nuclear warheads, rods of God, MOABs, FOABs, subs with nukes on them, military grade lasers, and possible nuclear tipped drones,...the aircraft carrier will have limited use.
Come to think about it...boots on the ground would have no use...cause the country they are trying to fight for could be completely destroyed while the soldiers were out and about.
So why has the Ukraine war lasted so long?

"So, we’re not afraid of invasion, are we?" What BS!

We've been under invasion for twenty years, and American citizens have been too pecker whipped to do anything about it...

Not if the ground in question has been reduced to nothing but rubble.

>But we don’t want that, do we?

Yeah we kinda do.

>We know we aren’t going to be invaded. Our citizens have too many guns.

That's true if we can keep the leftards from gutting the 2nd amendment and disarming us.

>So, we’re not afraid of invasion are we?

Once we get rid of the 20 or 30 million men of military age who have already invaded us.

MORE ICE PLEASE!

Gain air superiority then carpet bomb them in to ruble and bulldoze what's left in to the river and the sea....

You know the drill....Yada yada ... and let GOD sort them out.

Ike warned us about the MIC.

Trump has to deal with the Deep State.

It's all related. America is an Empire, not a Republic.

America voted for Trump so we want to be a Republic again.

But is it possible? Probably not.

That era is over for the West. just beginning for China.

We know we aren’t going to be invaded. Our citizens have too many guns.

Sincerely, how do you think China will be stopped from controlling trade in the S. China sea, and Taiwan, then bullying the Philippines, etc? and threatening the Aussies?

And deterring Russia, Iran, N. Korea and China from being a combined threat? Rod's from God? Of course, the real issue is that of most of the West also being at war with God.
