the cops had to turn their body cameras off just because she requested it. IMO ...
They shouldn't be ABLE to turn their body cameras off. The camera should be continuously recording video and audio from the moment they clock in to the moment they clock out.

“Good for you. I don’t give a sh*t.”
Newport's FinestThis approaches the laconic reply issued in a 1976 official letter by Alabama Attorney General Bill Baxley to the ku klux klan, whose agents had threatened him: "Kiss my a**."
I don't like vulgarity and seldom use obscenities, but sometimes there's no better way to say it. Also obscenity can sink to the level of the addressee, i.e. the kind of language the addressee will understand and frankly deserves.

This is Rhode Island we’re talking about here.

So why were they asked to leave the restaurant in the 1st place? I'm sure the answer is interesting, but in a sense it doesn't matter. The restaurant is a private business; the owner or owner's representative has pretty wide latitude in telling people to leave. Refusing that request to leave private property very quickly becomes trespassing, a criminal offense.

Totally agree. Evidently the Newport police have a policy where they must turn off their body cams if a witness or victim requests it. That’s a pretty dumb policy.
I suppose the policy is meant to protect innocent people if a news source requests the video. Wouldn’t it make more sense to just blur out the innocent people before releasing the video?

I suppose the policy is meant to protect innocent people if a news source requests the video. That's exactly the reason given. It's just that, in general, public servants simply cannot be trusted not to abuse the ability to turn the camera off. Therefore, the discretion as to what video can be released must be made after the fact.
And in related matters, Epstein didn't kill himself.

50/50 chance she’ll get three or four weeks off with pay as administrative leave and then when it blows over back in the office. However she did a pretty good job here so she may not skate. I expect that even if she does lose her job it won’t be too hard to find another. There plenty of law firms with lawyers that think just like she does.

Yes, I have seen a couple of those guys saying that they do not need to have a license to drive a car, or registration, blaa blaa blaa.
What I do like to see is the guys that literally know the law better than the arresting officer. They usually are the ones filming the incident. I watched one awhile ago where the cop was trying to boss this guy around. The cop eventually walked away because he knew he was wrong. Plus he had called into his supervisor who probably told him to walk away.

Would have been nice if the writer included that info.
