Leak: Newsom’s Gerrymander Will Eliminate 4 of 9 Republican Districts
Breitbart ^ | 08/15/2025 | Joel B. Pollak

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s plan to gerrymander California’s congressional districts will eliminate at least four Republican-held districts, while securing Democratic control of four other contested seats.

Currently, Republicans only hold nine of California’s 52 congressional seats (17%). Under the new map that the governor wants to present voters in a special election in November, Republicans will hold five seats (just under 10%). Nearly 40% of California voters chose Republican candidates in the last election in 2024, on a map created by an “independent” redistricting commission (which Democrats have gamed, regardless).

Politico reported the leaked chart, which was shown to Democrats in the state legislature, whose support Newsom needs to approve his special election — assuming it is legal and constitutional which Republicans deny. Politico reported that Republicans Doug LaMalfa, Kevin Kiley, Ken Calvert, and Darrell Issa would lose their seats under the gerrymandering plan, while Democrats Josh Harder, Adam Gray, George Whitesides, Derek Tran, and Dave Min would enjoy additional protection from potential Republican challengers in 2026.

Newsom claims it is necessary to eliminate Republican seats to “defend democracy,” given that Texas is about to redraw its own congressional map to eliminate four to five Democratic seats. Texas, however, is acting in the wake of a Department of Justice conclusion that the current Texas map, including “majority-minority” districts, is unconstitutional in the wake of recent federal jurisprudence and a flawed 2020 Census count.

Thus proving the lie the Democrats always spew about “saving our democracy”. Anyone with half a working brain cell should be able to suss out what the Democrats really ‘stand for’.

Whether it’s legal or not remains to be seen.

The Rats took redistriicting to court for decades and won on the premise that some districts deprived groups of their civil rights.

The courts agreed.

In California, we voted for a state constitutional amendment which the California Supreme “Court” then declared unconstitutional….on the premise that it violated the national Constitution.

So we’ll see if Nero Newsom’s mobocrats are allowed to deprive another group of their rights.

They started this crap. Welcome to the Karma Karavan.

With the rerun of the census eliminating aliens fro being counted for representation in Congress, California will lose a bunch of congressional seats so Newson redrawing districts(illegally according to Cali constitution) won’t matter.

The D’s will lose far more than that if they cannot count illegals as population...Think of south CA. That’s at least 30%

My fellow Commiefornians are stupid enough to vote for it. They have no idea that more demonicRATS means more burned out cities that they can rebuild.

More homeless encampments that stretch for miles.

More drug addled zombies sleeping in the doorways of businesses.

More drag queens performing in front of kindergarteners.

More children trafficked into sex slavery.

More children working as slaves in the marijuana groves.

Higher gas taxes.

Crappier roads.

Morons.

There may be constitutional issues with Newsom's plans.

  1. Newsom has a new map ready to go that was commissioned by California’s Democratic leadership for Paul Mitchell to develop. This map is currently unlawful because the state Constitution requires maps to be developed by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission.

  2. It is unlawful to put both this new map AND the Constitutional amendment suspending the California Citizens Redistricting Commission on the same ballot. Newsom must first pass the Amendment suspending the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, and then hold another special election to vote on the new map once the group that creates it is authorized by law to do so.

Courts would call this improperly “piggy-backing” on an unratified constitutional change if they were to appear together on the same ballot, because at the time of the special election, only maps created by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission are lawful.

  3. There must be a period where the amendment can be challenged in court and survive that challenge before it can become in force. California's proposition 8 that added language about marriage between a man and a woman was ruled unconstitutional AFTER it was passed by voters. Newsom cannot rush this amendment change along with a new map and expect it to pass without judicial challenge.

  4. The 2026 candidate calendar would make it practically impossible for Newsom to get a new redistricted map passed in time. The signature gathering process must occur between December 11, 2025 - February 4, 2026. The nomination filing period is from February 9 - March 6, 2026. Candidates must know their district boundaries before collecting signatures or filing nomination papers. Therefore, any replacement map must be certified and in effect by December 11, 2025, when candidate signature gathering begins.

  5. Under California Elections Code, a statewide special election generally requires at least 88 days’ notice between calling the election and holding it. After the election, it takes several weeks to certify it. With the special election for the constitutional amendment occurring on November 4, the most practical date for a second special election would be February 17, 2026, which is well into the primary signature gathering and filing period. Adding the time it would take to certify the election, it would be too late for the new map to be in place for the 2026 mid-term elections.

The new districts could not legally be used for the June 2, 2026 primary.

Every time they overreach, it pushes the state one step closer to what happened nationally last November.

Redraw the state lines for WA, OR, and CA. Move eastern WA, Eastern OR, and everything from the farmlands east in CA over to ID, NEV and AZ and you would definitely downsize California and its impact on the rest of the nation!

Democrats:

”It’s not racism when we do it.”

”Its not tyranny/authoritarianism when we do it.”

”It’s not violent insurrection when we do it.”

”Gerrymandering is not a threat to democracy when we do it.”

Good analysis. Plus, ballots have to be mailed out no later than 29 days before the special election.

Gavin’s imaginary redistricting will never happen, because he would have to change the California constitution first and the majority of people there dont support his plan.

Sorry Gavin, but you are just a loser.

Fixing the election by gerrymandering is not democracy, nor saving it.

It’s oligarchs seizing control of the government from the people by duplicitous means.

Pay attention to Eric Holder and the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. They’ve long been determined to gerrymander (same as redistricting)
We had trouble with them here in Ohio with Issue 1.
There is no such thing as a non political committee when it comes to voting.

Hokay, let’s assume Newscome gets everything done legally, and is able to get his new maps in place in time. Where is he getting the Dem voters to not only overwhelm four or five Rupub districts, but also strengthen five lean-Dem districts? CA is already near max-gerrymander, I don’t see how he can manage this!
