Shipwreck @shipwreckshow Food stamp restrictions got folks crossing the register lane just to check what's approved!
RFK wasn't messing around. Welcome to the life of "just the necessities" like the rest of us.

I never use self-checkout anywhere. I don’t work for them and they are not paying me.
Everybody in a position of authority or responsibility has to think about how what we choose to do or leave undone will contribute to the overall trend. I’m thinking of those city judges who let obviously dangerous people out of jail with low to no bail, thus allowing that same person to continue taking or ruining the lives of innocent people. Sometimes going by the letter of the law vs the intended spirit of that law is a counterproductive , amoral thing to do.
The choice was clear from the beginning.
All vey true. Vey true.
You can still go to food banks for free food.
Right. But no guarantees on that availability—largely because of the government programs.
I believe the local seafood store takes EBT. They also will cook seafood for you.
I love lobster, but I find that if I have it too often it is less desirable. I take the melted butter, I add lemon juice to it, lots of black pepper, and...Tabasco sauce!
I am not one that picks around inside the carapace of the lobster much to get every last piece, I simply go for the tail, the claws, and the legs. (If I eat crabs, I go for everything I can inside the carapace, and there is a lot more meat there than most people think there is. But it is gory work!
And I do love good Lobster Stew or Lobster Bisque.
But at the price? We do it once a year. To be fair, we were up in Maine, and we got a lobster roll at a roadside stand (I get them with melted butter instead of mayonnaise) and I am ashamed at what I paid for it. My wife was horrified I would spend that much, but I got all worked up thinking about how good it would be that I simply couldn’t not buy it when I found out how much it would cost.
My wife, for good reason, rolls her eyes at me in those modes I get into. But she has done the calculus and knows it is better just to humor me.
All that said-it offends me that someone could use EBT or food stamps to buy lobster. I have always been amenable to tax dollars being spent to help people who are having difficulty getting by, but I always thought it would be things like flour, sugar, milk, rice, beans, bread, and cheese, things like that.
I never in a million years thought that it would be used to buy Cocoa Puffs, Yodels, Reese’s Cups, and...Lobster.
