Former Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Brett Hankison is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday afternoon after being convicted of deprivation of rights under color of law in November.
Taylor was killed during a knock-and-announce drug raid on March 13, 2020, during which her boyfriend shot at police and they returned fire. LMPD Sgt. Jon Mattingly was shot during the exchange and has now recovered.
During the raid, Hankison fired ten shots through a window, though they are not the ones that struck Taylor. The officers who shot Taylor were not charged because they were returning fire as her boyfriend shot at them.
The Justice Department has argued that Hankison does not need to serve time as he is not a danger to the public.
Taylor’s family has urged the judge to ignore the recommendation and impose a harsher sentence. Lawyers representing the family called it an “insult” that sets a “dangerous precedent.”

One day? Why not just say ‘sentence delivered, sentence now suspended?’ instead of costing the local government all this extra court time and money?
Oh, geez, get ready for riots.
Trump can’t pardon. Not a Federal Offense.
Everything comes down to intent.
Why is he even charged, then?
Is it a Federal charge? If not trump cannot pardon him. But he doesn’t deserve any incarceration if her boyfriend shot at the police first.
I hope he gets a delicious delivery-service meal from his favorite restaurant while he serves his celebratory sentence.;-)
And a really good prosecco would be a nice addition.
I have no problem with that.
oh...okay
For stupidly discharging his weapon into a building that he had no ability to see into.
Unfortunately, you can’t charge someone for general stupidity.
I rather despise “Spray and Pray” cop style of shooting.
Since he is now a convicted Felon, he can no longer be a cop. One full day in prison should be enough.
Best job he will get from now on is a mall security guard.
Yes, Brett Hankison was convicted on federal charges. A federal jury in Louisville, Kentucky, found him guilty of one count of violating Breonna Taylor’s civil rights by using excessive force during the execution of a search warrant in March 2020.
Specifically, he was convicted of depriving Taylor of her constitutional rights when he fired five shots through a bedroom window that was covered with blinds and a blackout curtain.
The jury found that Hankison used a dangerous weapon in the commission of the offense, and that his conduct involved an attempt to kill, although his shots did not strike Taylor. He was acquitted on a second count that charged him with depriving three of Taylor’s neighbors of their constitutional rights.
Hankison’s sentencing was scheduled for July 21, 2025, and the Department of Justice requested in a sentencing memo that he serve just one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
When someone is shooting at you your response is not based on the color of the shooter. It is actually this, "I must kill him before he kills me." Color has nothing to do with it.
Because of the jackasses in the corrupt DEI fascist Biden Administration.
Not with a security company, only in-house, with that new record.
Bump!!!
And the officer assisted suicide of saint Floyd?
All the officers in that shooting should be pardoned of all Federal charges. I believe that three of them are already free, so they won’t face additional jeopardy. Chauvin is still behind bars so pardoning him would put him in State Prison were he will be assassinated.
