The Ukraine war comes home to the USA. I really do think this is possible. Why spend hundreds of millions on 1 bomber?

Our dear friends in Ukraine and their rogue CIA/MI6 masters, have shown the way....

That’s like saying after the Pearl Harbor attack that US bases could be destroyed by sneak attacks.

Nope. They had their fun, and then they lost. I think the same thing will happen with this one. For starters, the US military is not quite as incompetent as the Russian one.

I have no doubt the land owned by China that is near military bases is stockpiled with these things. All it would take is one shipping container to open and release thousands of them. Who thought it was a good idea to sell US farmland to the Chicoms?

How many other impossible things do you believe before breakfast?

I think they are just trying to make a point, and the point is a very good one if it is true and our military complex doesn’t have plans to deal with drone incursions, but I’m going to nitpick about the headline. Color me extremely skeptical that any $100 drone has significant weapons capabilities. Hell, you can’t even buy a half way decent retail market drone with a HD camera and long flight range and/or GP programming.

Inexpensive drones? 3D printers? Explosives? Not many non-military people out there that could put this together. I don’t think you could do it with an “inexpensive” drone either. Would take some large bucks and a lot of expertise to carry it off. Plus the fact you would most likely get caught. Cameras everywhere, records of purchases, etc. Not as easy as in Russia.

I have had nightmares about being offed by a drone for years.

This before I had ever heard of anything other than the ones the military used way back in the sandbox.

It’s more than possible rogue terrorist groups could use drones to harm US air bases. But they would only invoke the wrath of the US military to attack the parent country they are getting them and other weapons from. Using them in an attack in a war zone is one thing. Going out of their way to attack the US not in the occurrence involved is an act of war and we will respond accordingly with Trump at the wheel. And for a direct retaliation from an attack he doesn’t even have to go through congress. He’s the commander of the military and can act for a certain amount of time with action downrange to protect our people and property. And the only three countries that would be stupid enough to try would be only China, North Korea, and Russia. And they all understand what is going to happen.

This has been known for decades. Most US Air Force bases, Naval Air Stations and commercial airports have operational areas like runways that are adjacent to commercial roads and neighborhoods around the perimeter of the airfield.

Part of this is due to encroachment around the bases. Originally, these bases were in the sticks miles away from local communities. March AFB is a classic example. Now freeways and communities surround it.

Another factor, is the now outdated assumption that some nut wouldn't be sitting there ready to take down a plane. Unfortunately, times have changed and terrorists are much bolder and better equipped.

A drone can be launched from anywhere. But here in the USA, it would be just as easy for some idiot, taking a TikTok dare, to lob devices right over a perimeter fence. Frankly, I am more worried about that low IQ and low tech risk than a drone attack.

But, but, but...the US has developed an anti-drone gun for only $13M per unit.

Hegseth has the Pentagon planners working hard on this now. No more worrying about DEI or trans.

The focus now is on drone countermeasures and tactics, as well as the strategic positioning of anti-air, anti-missile and anti-drone operations.

Earlier this year, a lot of wargames were showing we would lose. Since then, they are now focusing on how and what to do to counter them.

If you can think of a way to repel a drone attack, you could make money bringing your ideas to Washington right now.

This article fails to point out a critical fact...

The air craft destroyed in Russia were deliberately parked in plain sight, and clustered close together, because of a nuclear weapon treaty signed by the USA and Russia.

The destroyed air craft are strategic bombers that can deliver nuclear weapons over long distances.

By treaty - USA and Russian strategic bombers must be plainly visible to spy satellites.

Reminder we have seized ZERO Chinese owned farmland next to military bases or not. ZERO. But look on the bright side! Trump made a DEAL to let their spies continue to attend universities! Winning!!!

Chinese drones are probably already in this country by the hundreds, while Pentagon procurement officers are daydreaming about their retirement jobs with Boeing.

The B2s are in hardened shelters not accessible from the air. The B52s, however are sitting ducks. A swarm of cheap drones would wreck havoc on military and naval bases around the world.

That attack on Russian aircraft will have the same level of impact on warfare that the battle of the Monitor and Merrimack had on naval warfare. Everything is different now.

I think part of the reason they want the war, is to use it as a laboratory to learn about how to use and defend against drones.

Kind of like what happened during The Spanish Civil War.
