My recollection is SS was used by other governmental agencies to verify alive or not, not age, date of birth etc. The fraud was occurring in other systems for food stamps and other fraud, not necessarily SS benefits.

This was my understanding as well. Other govt agencies were using SS as the system of record to see if the person was marked alive, not validating age, birth date etc.

This is probably the pool of the numbers that the illegals have been using to game the system. It will be interesting to see what shakes out.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the 110-120 age bracket can also be removed. The five people in the country still alive in that age bracket can re-apply with our apologies.

In fairness, the article does not say that all of those people were actually receiving benefits - just that their names were in the system. If they all had been receiving benefits, the Administration/Doge would have made that clear.

Still a screwup, though, because it would make fraud easier.

It was a data base.......nothing more. These were not people who were still receiving checks....these were people who were in the SS data base and at one time...did receive checks.
