Right - it is an absurd headline. He is there as a King of Canada, not the King of the U.K.
This kind of stuff so typical of “Conservative” Treehouse and Sundance.
Why is this clown engaging in politics? Aren’t they merely token heads of state with no real political power?
King Muhammad needs to go home to his Islamic Utopia.
I suspected he converted years ago.
3-day photo op. Conflate it into a big deal if you wish.
Well, the King is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Services. They actually report to him - at least on paper.
The King does have power. He chooses not to use it.
I read a book about 5 years ago that described the Queen’s power. She was considered the foremost constitutional expert in the UK. The UK did not have a supreme court until 2012. Until then, the Queen settled constitutional issues.
In addition, she had to sign every bill passed for it to be law. According to an article in the Times of London, she vetoed a number of bills. I found that unbelievable. Did that not get any press? The article’s title was something similar to “Queen vetoes more bills than realized”.
The Queen threw her weight around. As sovereign, she can request an audience with anyone in government and they have to show up. She would meet one on one - no one else - to find out the details of whatever it was and pressure them to do abc.
In foreign policy, she would often sit in on meetings/negotiations with other countries. Apparently, this was always done quietly. The book had an example, in which, negotiations were going no where and it was contentious and getting worse. They secretly called the Queen in and she got it done. I forget the other country involved, but they did not dispute it.
Anyway, I find those things almost fantastical, but perhaps it is accurate.
King Arthur: I am your king.
Peasant Woman: Well, I didn’t vote for you.
King Arthur: You don’t vote for kings.
Peasant Woman: Well, how’d you become king, then?
[An angelic choir begins...]
King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. [singing stops] That is why I am your king.
Dennis: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
Arthur: Be quiet!
Dennis: You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just ‘cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
Arthur: Shut up!
Dennis: I mean, if I went around saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away!
Arthur: [grabs Dennis] Shut up! Will you shut up?!
Dennis: Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system!
Arthur: [shakes Dennis] Shut up!
Dennis: Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help, help, I’m being repressed!
Arthur: Bloody Peasant!
Dennis: Ooh, what a giveaway! Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That’s what I’m on about! Did you see him repressing me? You saw it, didn’t you?
Don’t be silly. Britain might not have as many, but it has enough warheads to take out every major city in the US in retaliation.
Strange that you would be so bellicose against a nuclear armed ally whilst being a massive pussy when it comes to confronting Russia’s aggression.
I remember a time when American conservatives used to be firm against Russian aggression.
King Charles The Insipid!
Imagine if his Majesty’s thirteen American colonies had become the first commonwealth nation of the British Empire.
Her vetoes were pre-emptive - advising them not to pass the proposed bills. She did not receive passed bills and then veto them as that would have been a bit more dramatic. Still, no, she was not just a figurehead.
Also lookup the video on YouTube “The Queen’s relationship with Margaret Thatcher” - not so much about the relationship but how it highlights her involvement in foreign policy - actually flying out ahead of Thatcher in one case and warning the prime minister of another realm to be respectful and not do anything to cause a scene as they were apparently rumored to be planning a confrontation with Thatcher. The Queen’s intervention was credited with making the summit a huge diplomatic success.
May have been had King George III read the “Olive Branch Petition” and given a thoughtful response to it.
