California gas prices could skyrocket 75%

California drivers could soon face gas prices soaring to $8.43 per gallon, a staggering 75% increase from current levels. The looming crisis stems from the shutdown of two major in-state refineries, which together account for 20% of California’s gasoline production.

The Phillips 66 refinery in Los Angeles is set to close by the end of 2025, followed by the Valero refinery in Benicia, which will halt operations in April 2026. These closures will create a gasoline deficit ranging from 6.6 million to 13.1 million gallons per day, according to an analysis by USC Professor Michael Mische. The impact will extend beyond fuel prices, affecting supply chains, air travel, food delivery, agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare.

Hijacked account? I’ve heard of it happening on X, but not on Free Republic, so far.

Whats the big deal? In California the electric vehicle mandate is still in place, and fewer and fewer ICE cars will be on the road every year (theoretically at least). This is what the voters wanted. No sympathy here.

If the vote is actually not hijacked?

There are no true elections.

In the states. The nationals or in many countries.

Until that is thoroughly fixed. Nothing is real

In the not too distant future, I can see offshore drilling use the huuuuge deposits of hydrocarbons under the Kalifornia soil. The will employ the horizontal drilling already in use. If Kalifornia won’t drill and refine, entrepreneurs will.

While the offshore entrepreneurs are at it, they will build desalination plants and sell the clean water. There is a huuuuge body of water just off the coast of Kalifornia. Some call it the Pacific Ocean. Kalifornia democRATS have instituted a permanent drought. The last few years have seen huuuuge snowfall amounts that could be dammed and saved.... But Nooooooooo!

Mr. Thesalonian on Utube has videos on how to make gasoline plus on how to run your car on wood like many did during WWI and WWII.

They can’t. The CA low carbon fuel mandate is relatively low yield and requires special refinery setup - and regular fuel is illegal to sell in CA. So, no, nobody will be shipping in fuel from the rest of the country to CA.

"The Phillips 66 refinery in Los Angeles is set to close by the end of 2025, followed by the Valero refinery in Benicia, which will halt operations in April 2026."

Just "set to close"? That's all?

Politics? Anti-fossil fuel antagonism? Green fetish? FORCE people into EVs whether they want them or not? Democrats? Idiots in government?

Answer: ALL of the above.

Separate tank of a little diesel.

Start it on that and heat up and switch to bio to drive.

Run a little real diesel at shutdown to be ready for the next start.

It's hard to make gasoline at home, but wood pyrolysis IS doable. People used this during WW II with gas rationing.

“oil literally bubbles up from the ground”

I got it all over my feet at the LA beaches when I was 4 years old in 1955.

California’s famed enviro-racket is run by oil company stockholders, of which Grubbiner Noisome is a scion.

This game of musical chairs will be a bonanza for the entitled.

Make your own gasoline? Who’s going to deliver the crude oil to your home refinery towers?

I hope you were just kidding.

“Lunatics in a state where oil literally bubbles up from the ground (so I’ve heard).”

It’s all lunatics in this ward. Worldwide, more oil naturally seeps to the surface than is produced by humans every year.

“This doesn’t effect any state except California.”

Wrong... Az and Nevada gets almost ALL their fuel from the two pipelines this company is going to shut down.Only the Southern line in Phoenix has a connection to Texas for emergencies only. Any shortages in production form one refinery put a load on all the other refineries and EVERYONE’S price goes up.

“Fuel for az,nv, and nm come from states other than California, where is based upon the current pump price at those locations.”

Wrong again... Se above...

“The big concern should be that every military base in California gets its fuel from California.”

The Military will spend whatever it takes to keep themselves fueled from other states by Truck or Rail. They have a Blank Check from the federal government.

I was in the petroleum business all my life. I know exactly how it is all fit together and how it works. Just the rumor of a small leak in one state makes the oil companies raise prices across the whole country. They are crooked as hell.

“California’s problems are still YOUR problem like it or not...”

Do you have something I - and other voters - can say that will convince California voters to repent and change their ways?

If you do, please tell us. I would not mind helping California people; but I’m not willing to subsidize their open perversions.
