Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) introduced a bill to fully defund NPR and PBS during a viral congressional hearing this week, calling the taxpayer-funded outlets “propaganda machines for the radical left.”
The move came after a House Subcommittee on Government Efficiency hearing Wednesday, where NPR CEO Katherine Maher was brutally grilled by GOP lawmakers for the outlet’s deep-seated liberal bias while taking taxpayers’ money.
Jackson’s bill—titled the “No Partisan Radio and Partisan Broadcasting Services Act” or the “NPR and PBS Act”—seeks to eliminate federal funding for both NPR and PBS.
“Hardworking Americans are sick of footing the bill,” Jackson told Fox News Digital.
“It’s time to cut them off and stop forcing taxpayers to pay for their liberal lies!”
“Though NPR and PBS were originally founded to produce non-biased, informational, and educational content, the outlets have since turned into taxpayer-funded propaganda machines for the radical left,” he added.
During the hearing, Maher struggled to answer questions from Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX), who grilled her on NPR’s decision to ignore the Hunter Biden laptop story during the 2020 election.
Maher admitted, “NPR acknowledges we were mistaken in failing to cover the Hunter Biden laptop story more aggressively or sooner.”
Watch:
The hearing also highlighted NPR’s coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic after Cloud noted the network’s early dismissal of the lab leak theory.
Maher responded:
“We recognize our reporting at the time, but we recognize that the new CIA evidence is worthy of coverage and have covered it.”
The grilling came in the wake of revelations from former NPR senior editor Uri Berliner, who was suspended in 2024 after publishing an essay accusing the network of censoring dissenting viewpoints.
Berliner’s piece soon became a rallying cry for critics who say NPR and PBS are no longer fit for taxpayer support.
Meanwhile, President Trump responded to the hearing, saying he would be “honored” to see both NPR and PBS shut down and blasting them as “very unfair” and “very biased.”
“They spend more money than any other network of its type ever conceived, so the kind of money that’s being wasted, and it’s a very biased view, you know that better than anybody,” Trump previously said.
“And I’d be honored to see it end.”
Jackson’s office echoed Trump, describing NPR and PBS as a “messaging arm for woke, radical Democrats.“
“Though NPR and PBS were originally founded to produce non-biased, informational, and educational content, the outlets have since turned into taxpayer-funded propaganda machines for the radical left”
No, they were originally founded as part of Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” engorgement of the federal government as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Democratic Party. They’ve been a propaganda arm of the Democrats since their inception, as intended. All the way with LBJ.
Not Enough! This huge media empire was built on the backs of the American workers and taxpayers. This was a grand deception; an enterprise that co-opted the affectations of American culture and then directed their presentation to sell a humanist, atheist world view. The entire network and all its assets must be seized, assessed, and placed in the hands of conservatives. The foundations who are funding it should continue to do so, since only the political propaganda will be eliminated. Only then can these networks be liberated and only then can Justice be done.
The GOP should do away with the network licenses through which this propaganda machine operates.
Uncle Leo: Stop the show!
For me, it’s not whether they are propaganda or not. Like Planned Parenthood, I object for tax money to fund private organizations.
Don’t de-fund NPR.
Replace the Board with Conservatives and take it over.
Use it to do to the Dem’s what they have done. Turn it around and teach history and patriotism.
.
I won’t hold my breath as the entire Republican party is literally a steaming pile of sh&$.
They don’t need OUR money to survive. It’s a gravy train for them.
I like Ronny Jackson. Was happy that he was with Trump after he was shot. I’m sure Trump was comforted with Ronny at his side.
Yep. Replace the 87 democrap NPR workers with 87 Republicans and see how that liar likes working with them.
Let Alex Jones and Glen Beck run NPR and PBS... lol
Correct, it’s the uniparty
Viral?
If you cut the propaganda off the left won’t know what they’re supposed to do.
As another article posted, President Trump is ending the govt funded patronage of the left.
Like many of you I was always curious how the left raised so much money, and funded so many operations. Soros and his ilk were often given credit, but it is clear that soros and others were not spending their money, but ours and keeping large chunks for themselves as well.
The perfect scheme, and now far and wide these tentacles have spread has yet to be fully exposed.
How did organizations like cnn and pmsdnc fund such large and expensive operations with little viewership, and the answer always was contracts with cable companies. Perhaps a partial truth, but I think the govt teat was more likely.
With this scheme being exposed and even more importantly the funds being removed, the “power” of the left/legacy media are crashing.
I believe the term is normalcy bias at least to some extent. They have lived in this bubble for so long they can’t believe it’s ending so they carry on as before, often doubling down
This is making a splash in the news. But the actual dollar amounts in percentages that the government contributes to the running of this steaming pile of poop is about 1%. The last I heard it might have been 3%. But nonetheless, we’re not really funding. The whole s**t show.
I agree to shut it down and revoke the licensing. If re-established as a “civilian” radio corporation, then the LLC picks up the pay as you go expenses. Sadly, a lot of the corporate dollars going to NPR & PBS are gifts and donations which that says a lot about who’s funding what?
