The 2025 Prayag Maha Kumbh Lela is currently taking place in India, marking the largest human gathering ever recorded. With an expected attendance of 400 million to 450 million people, this grand event has already surpassed expectations, with over 500 million visitors as of February 14, 2025.
This massive pilgrimage, known as the “Festival of the Sacred Pitcher,” takes place along the sacred Ganges River at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has reported that more than 500 million devotees have taken a holy dip in the river since the event began on January 13, 2025.
The Prayag Maha Kumbh Lela is a 45-day event that celebrates the astronomical alignment of Jupiter, the Sun, and the Moon. This year’s gathering is particularly significant as it marks the completion of a 12-Kumbh Mela cycle, an event that occurs once every 144 years.

Yuch. That water is full of pee
Imagine the smell.
Well, there’s another one in 144 years, so just wait...............
Normally, that would discourage me. But, looking at the ages of some of the Social Security recipients, I might just make it after all.
That doesn’t look chlorinated.
Sorry, I must call BS
in the 35 days of this festival, that's 14.2 million visitors / people taking a "holy dip" - every single day.
That's almost TWO New York Cities - travelling, eating, defecating, sleeping, dipping - EVERY DAY.
this can't be possible.
I was wondering why the traffic was light this morning commute
They just go in the sacred river.
Not to mention the dead animals and humans floating past in various stages of decomposition.
I would like to see this individual a couple hours after he took the big drank.
Let’s see that’s one porta potty for every fifty bodies.
Hello Porta Potties Are Us, I need to have 10 million units on site in a week.
There are roughly one billion Hindus in India, Muslims are the second largest religion following by Christians and Sikhs.
This story suggests half of all the Hindus have shown up.
That’s not likely I agree.
Someone should drop a sausage link into the middle of it, and start a stampede.
My mistake. Thought it was I slam.
Not to mention the thousands of decaying bodies “buried” in the Ganges in “sacred” ceremony. A flowing massive cesspool of disease and horror.
The night scene from “A Passage to India” with a crocodile mugger splashing up to inhale a body comes to mind.
Really hard for an intelligent individual, regardless of religion to relegate the absolute health nightmare with the fantasy pagan religionists who think this is all just.... karma.
And they all crap in the Ganges river together... What a religion!
The Ganghis is one big open latrine complete with corpses and garbage to add to the ambiance. In fact. Most of India is one big open portapotty. They won’t notice.
