Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a significant policy initiative to either abolish or drastically lower property taxes in the state. This proposal is part of his broader strategy to reduce the tax burden on residents and stimulate economic growth.

DeSantis argues that high property taxes are a considerable financial strain on homeowners and businesses. By reducing or eliminating these taxes, he aims to increase disposable income for residents and attract more investment into the state. The proposal has received support from various business groups and fiscal conservatives who believe that lower taxes will lead to increased economic activity and job creation.

Governor DeSantis, my property taxes have been stable for 9 years. But the auto insurance rates have doubled in just 18 months. Better pay attention to auto insurance first.

“Better pay attention to auto insurance first.”

.
New Hampshire doesn’t require auto insurance.

But then, they don’t have many Illegals. (Those are the drivers who don’t know what “wrong way” signs mean).

Property taxes are paid to the state. DeSantis has some control over that issue.

Auto insurance is sold by private companies. DeSantis has as much control over that price as he has what 7/11 charges for a slushy...not much.

He’s great! I’d rather he drops our homeowners insurance which is a thousand more than my property taxes.

I love DeSantis but I missed the part about replacement revenue.

Where will the replacement come from? Even I don't anticipate cutting spending that much.

You are correct, in some countries they impose no real estate taxes because it’s seen as cruel.

Down on your luck? Can’t pay the tax no? Out on the street you go!

(Where I live we have well north of $5,000 property tax on a 2,000 sq ft property. And when you go to a park you have to pee behind a tree because there are no restrooms.)

I’d like to see a nation wide movement to eliminate property taxes. You never really own anything if they aren’t eliminated.

“Property taxes are paid to the state. “

Property taxes are paid to the county.

How do you propose paying for the county services?

Oregon Gov. Kotek aims to drastically increase property tax by creating a state controlled property tax. And throw some salt in the serious wound with a 35c/gal gas tax.

The whole concept of property taxes is just another grasp at money by government, wherever they can get it. It means you never really own your own home even after you pay it off.

while that’s helpful, many neighborhoods are adopting HOAs... which have fees upwards of $1000+ per month

You are not correct. The STATE OF FLORIDA MANDATES every driver to carry auto insurance. But imposes no restrictions on private companies on magnitudes of rate increased.
I buy electricity & nat gas from private outfits. Those are regulated by the State. So why are auto & home insurance outfits are allowed to gouge consumers?
Buck stops at DeDantis’s desk.
