Fox News obtained exclusive information regarding the crew members aboard the Army helicopter at the time of the accident. The instructor pilot commanding the Black Hawk boasted 1,000 flying hours.
Meanwhile, his co-pilot was a woman with 500 flying hours, considered to be a standard level of experience in aviation circles.
The revelation that the co-pilot was a woman has reignited ongoing debates about gender roles within military operations.

“Unless she was flying the helicopter, the point is moot.”
No, it is not. In a helo, the copilot must be very much on top of things, including radios, and when ATC asks them to look for traffic, the copilot is VERY involved. It’s not like a copilot just sits there enjoying the ride if they are not flying at that moment.
A copilot might tell the captain they have the traffic in sight when they don’t, they should be monitoring the altitude also.
We don’t know if the copilot did anything wrong, but it is far from true that a copilot cannot directly cause such an accident. Same for the pilot, lot’s of copilots saw the problem and the Captain killed them just the same.
I refused to go on a United flight with two young ladies sitting in the cockpit. The plane made it safely to RDU without me.
“Women are perfectly capable of being competent pilots.”
Yeah, and men are perfectly capable of watching the kids.
The truth, is that either one is like a dog walking on it’s hind legs. It looks weird and it’s never really done that well.
“Flame away. I recognize reality.”
That is stupid. There are outstanding woman pilots and have been for many decades. Are all great? Nope. Are all MALE pilots great? Nope. Is there any sign that for MOST flight ops (non-fighter aircraft), women are not as good as men? Not that I saw - and I had 25 years in military flying.
If the pilot was an instructor on the training flight, then who was actually flying the helicopter?
๐๐. But, it was Adam’s fault.
You just know something is up because of all the delaying tactics being used for info release.
The Soviets were great at demolishing many social norms, including what was suitable employment for women. Is that the flex you intended?
“To contrast, 1500 hours is the federally mandated minimum to be a commercial pilot. “
And that means fly for money, as in Charter, flight instructing, cargo, etc. To get in the cockpit of an airliner, you’ll need 1500.
your theory is credible as any
when you track the movements of the helicopter, it is hard not to conclude that it was an intentional hit
My niece flew an Apache helicopter for years. She still flies Blackhawks for the National Guard in Alaska.
She tested out of basic training because she was so athletic.
I question other things. Why was the helicopter circling around the landing strip ? Why did the helicopter make all of these sudden direction changes at the last minute?
Hey, it’s called a “cockpit” for a reason.
I’m glad she got home safe. Women would not be in combat.
I think he knew for sure that these were DEI hires before he got out there and said anything.
“It is that too often they are pushed forward despite not meeting standards. The military is especially prone to this.”
Used to be true. Was true in the 80s, 90s and possibly into the early 2000s. From what I hear, it is no longer true.
“But the most dangerous thing in the air is a pilot with around 500 hours.”
Hours don’t tell much of a story. 500 hours in fighters is quite a bit. 500 in helicopters would be darn little. At least when my fighter pilot Dad was sent to Vietnam in helicopters (how stupid was that?), he flew 12 hour missions in helicopters and 1 hour missions in A-37s (which he was allowed to fly twice a week in Vietnam).
The Soviets were great at demolishing many social norms, including what was suitable employment for women. Is that the flex you intended?
Funny thing is, I don’t believe there ever was a single woman member of The Politburo.
I keep asking myself over and over, “How?” “How?” And I keep coming back to intentional.
That can go both ways.
as long as she met the same qualifications as the men
Women are NEVER held to the same qualifications as men, in ANY endeavor. There are always "handicaps" allowed.
- military
- civil police
- Golf
- etc.
Look deep enough in the realm of flight and you WILL find a point where the numbers were fudged for the woman.
As Matt Walsh recently opined in a show segment, we know that women are held to a different, lesser standard than men in the military because women ARE IN the military.
No, the conclusion is that they confused a more distant plane rather than the one ATC warned them about. And they missed the one with it’s belly mostly facing them as it made a descending left turn.
And then of course, remember it is a classic high-wing, low wing approach collision. Throw in night time and night vision goggles and the sane answer is that it was an accident.
The thing hard to conclude is that someone in a Blackhawk deliberately targeted a jet and rammed it. That would be difficult to do if that was your intent, especially at at night.
