Bulldozer Clears Abandoned Cars & Steve Guttenberg Interviewed Live On-Air — Watch How Local TV Is Covering Palisades Fire

Local TV news is covering the Palisades Fire live as it unfolds, producing some surreal scenes that even longtime Los Angeles residents never have witnessed.

Among those is the wild video of a giant bulldozer powering through dozens of cars — including Mercedes, BMWs, Teslas and other high-end makes — that were abandoned along Palisades Drive as gridlock hit during mandatory evacuations and panicked residents fled. Watch it above.

During a live phone interview with KTLA-TV on Tuesday afternoon, retired Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Bob Goldman stressed the need for area residents to be prepared to evacuate on short notice. “I don’t recall a wind event like this in 15 to 20 years, so this is really unique,” he said. “I, like most people, was rather shocked to see what was going on with the dozer pushing the cars out of the way — having to go to that extreme measure. … You know, people have got to have a plan. There’s really nothing glamorous or sexy about preparedness.”

Earlier, KTLA reporter Gene Kang was doing man-on-the-street interviews and encountered a local resident who was bemoaning the vehicles blocking the road. It turned out to be Steve Guttenberg, whom the reporter did not recognize immediately.

“What’s happening is people take their keys with them as if they’re in a parking lot,” he said. “This is not a parking lot. We really need people to move their cars. If you leave your car behind, leave the key in there so a guy like me can move your car so that these fire trucks can get up there.”

Have they made any headway in removing the feet of dead brush covering the hills? That place was a tenderbox the times I’ve been there.

I saw a video this morning of a guy putting a painting(art work) into his vehicle.
The next scene was a bulldozer pushing a Mercedes out of the way after it and all the vehicles around it had been abandoned by its driver.

These areas that have these wildfires annually with the Santa Anna winds are going to only be rebuilt by people who can afford to not have insurance. NO insurance company is going to write a policy in these areas. They are a bad risk.

And you really don’t want a bulldozer pushing electric vehicles around.

If the blade punchers the battery if is going to burn.

Once air gets to the lithium ribbon in the battery it is going burn and once one of the cells is burning the rest of the battery is going to be heated till it burst and a chain reaction is born.

First thing I thought about when I read that their were abandoned Teslas in the evacuation.

Wheat fool was using a Tesla to evacuate?

You are going to exhaust your battery long before you get to safety.

You are very likely to drive through areas where the power is shut off.

Unless it is your only vehicle don’t drive an electric vehicle to evacuate. Gasoline is much more available than charging stations and a lot faster to refuel.

Kinda like rain I suppose. Aren’t they engineered for that?
EV’s are the solution to a problem which does NOT exist!

Wonder if the thieves are moving in to break into homes of those who evacuated?

Always seems to happen around here that idiots will risk their lives to break into homes during raging wild fires - the owners come back to find their homes looted. This is why many refuse to abandon their homes. The fire dept. says the roads are blocked off so the area is “protected” from looters - but they will just go around.

Earlier today, someone here posted a tweet from a local that said the police are ordering them to leave their cars and quickly walk out. I didn’t know what’s true.

The forestry service, and firefighters use troubled kids from juvenile camps to help fight fires - supposedly to help them learn valuable fire fighting skills for future employment.

THEY were caught breaking into homes...
