GOP report: Liz Cheney should be investigated by FBI over Jan. 6 investigation

A new Republican oversight report accuses former Congresswoman Liz Cheney of colluding with witnesses in the Jan. 6 Select Committee investigation that she oversaw.

The bombshell report released Tuesday said Cheney should be investigated by the FBI for possible criminal activity for her role in the first committee, which was led by Democrats in the immediate aftermath of the conflict at the Capitol after now President-elect Donald Trump left office in 2021.

The Committee on House Administration's Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., released the report, his second major report on the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol.

From the report:

Based on the evidence obtained by this Subcommittee, numerous federal laws were likely broken by Liz Cheney, the former Vice Chair of the January 6 Select Committee, and these violations should be investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Evidence uncovered by the Subcommittee revealed that former Congresswoman Liz Cheney tampered with at least one witness, Cassidy Hutchinson, by secretly communicating with Hutchinson without Hutchinson’s attorney’s knowledge. This secret communication with a witness is improper and likely violates 18 U.S.C. 1512. Such action is outside the due functioning of the legislative process and therefore not protected by the Speech and Debate clause.

In the past, I would just shrug and say "nothing will come of this". However, given the people that Trump is putting in place in the DOJ and FBI, Liz Cheney may have cause to worry.

Cheney took a look at the political climate a couple years or so ago, and she decided the wind was blowing in favor of the Democrats. Therefore, she abandoned any few conservative principles she had remaining, and decided to cast her lot in with the left. I wonder if it will ever dawn on her that doing so was a bad idea?

Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) represents a portion of northwest Georgia, a very conservative area of the state. The Democrats accused him of conducting a group of "insurrectionists" on a tour of the Capitol to allow them to do reconnaissance mission. Of course, that was all a lie. Since then he has been like a dog with a bone in investigation the January 6th instigators and the Jan 6th committee.

Cheney probably IS hoping for a pardon. Of course she and the media will frame it as protecting herself from a political prosecution without mentioning her actions in regards to Cassidy Hutchinson and her testimony.

Seems like it would be better for the GOP to quit telegraphing their plans about who they want to have face justice next year. All this does is motivate Joe to announce a pre-emptive pardon for them in the remaining days of his term.

I think we owe Liz Cheney a thank you. Kamala spending her last couple weeks campaigning with Loony Liz did nothing for her campaign, but it helped reinforce Trump’s solid support. Loony Liz is so enamored with her liberal press support, but they never really liked her. They tolerated her because she hated Trump.

Retain a good lawyer, ma’am.

A better idea is have her investigated by authorities who themselves are of good moral standing.

Good report, but she won’t be prosecuted.

Do you believe the Democrats don’t know what crimes Liz Cheney committed during her time on the J6 Committee?

I think Cheney went anti Trump in the hopes it would get her a nice cabinet position in the next Biden/Harris administration. Remember, at the time everybody had written off Trump’s chances for reelection.

Liz is out of Congress. So they’re going to really ruin her, with a super extra sternly worded letter.

The entire committee needs to be investigated, not just Liz Cheney, along with former Speaker of the House, Nasty Pelosi.

Other members should be on the ticket as well. Adam Schiff should be held in protective custody in a subterranean mud pit cell on Devil’s Island while the investigation goes on. It isn’t anything he didn’t wish on anyone else.

Still waiting on a reporter to ask her to justify her statements that one of the reasons she was serving on the committee was to restore faith in our elections system, when she was knowingly serving with other members - including the Chairman of the committee - who had openly denied the legitimacy of the results of multiple prior elections, including the elections of her very own father as Vice President.
