Before Matt Gaetz withdrew from his Attorney General nomination today, Morning Joe was furiously kibitzing over how he could be unraveled over allegations of having sex with a minor and attending drug-fueled parties.
If they couldn't obtain the House Ethics Committee report, the Senate would conduct its own investigation, bringing live witnesses to testify as to Gaetz's activities--something that, Joe Scarborough argued, would be worse for the nominee.
That's when MSNBC Republican Elise Jordan blew the lid off it, by claiming Gaetz was an "addict" twice over. It's not simply an issue of morality:
"Your morality leads you to become compromised. And this is about not wanting a sex addict, not wanting a drug addict, having control of the nation's top secrets at the end of the day."

Gaetz was just a poor choice for AG...I always thought he was creepy. Trump just needs to take this one on the chin and continue to move forward.

Give Scarborough a break, will ya? The medical examiner said that the intern’s death (while in Joe’s office) was accidental. Joe had nothing to do with it.
Oh, wait. The medical examiner, Dr. Michael Berkland, later had his license revoked due to incompetence.
So, yeah. Maybe it is valid to bring up the intern’s death, even now.

I’m not sure why he agreed to to take the nomination unless this was his ticket out of Congress w/o the report coming out.
Yes, his statement is couched as if it’s his decision. But that was likely the Trump transition’s way of being kind to him.

I like Gaetz and wish he had hung in there. But, every time a Republican nominee loses his spine and gives up is a WIN for the marxist Left in America and just encourages them that much more. Hooray for Korsuch and Thomas for not giving up!
Trump should not nominate anyone unless he is prepared to go to the mat with them and the nominee should pledge to not chicken out!

Agree, if you weren’t willing to go down fighting you shouldn’t have accepted. It’s going to be hard to top this nomination. DOJ was lawyering up. Who rlse could have forced that?
