I believe Vance will spend most of his time with Trump being MAGA mentored, ready for 2028.

John Adams presided over the U.S Senate as Senate Majority Leader 200 years ago, as vice president of the United States. The Constitution says that the vice president is the highest ranking officer in the Senate, and when he sits in the chair, that’s the way it is. So legally there is precedence for this role.

We’ll see. I do want Vance to be in charge of the Senate, so if he can do it I’ll be happy.

It’s unclear if Adams -200 yrs ago—was voted SML or usurped the duties.

Trump has said he will not support a SML who will not allow recess appointments as they stalled his administration in ‘16 for months and a year in some case, even with an R majority in his 1st two years. If the new SML refuses, I wouldn’t rule out some usurpation from Vance.

Recess appointees do receive hearings and confirmation up or down, just after the fact, iirc.

Article 1 Section2 of he Constitution states: “The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided”. The Constitution says nothing about any “Senate Majority Leader”. That part comes from rules voted upon by the senators. It can be assumed that the constitutionally authorized “President” of the Senate can overrule a non-constitutionally authorized “majority leader”.

Show us where in the Constitution it describes the role of a Majority Leader. Then do the same for President of the Senate.

The quesion is whether Trump has the balls to do it - anyone want to take that bet?

I suspect this idea is being floated as part of a strategy to get the Cornyn/Thune contingent to STFU and give Trump the leader he wants. Sometimes a threat is more effective than the actual thing because these all-too-comfy Senators will not want to F around and Find Out.

That was before the current rules were written.

I like Vance, but in 2028, the democrat nominee is most likely to be Maryland’s governor Wes Moore. He is an obama clone WITH military cred. I don’t care how many democrat guys run, NO white guy survives their primaries. Republicans need to begin now finding a legitimate, strong Hispanic to be on the 2028 ticket. That election is likely to be the next most important - it is a census administration. That is why democrats fought so hard against Trump in 2020, to keep the census count a contaminated mess.

So Vance is going to attend all the Senate sessions, vote on bills, go home and talk to his locals....AND he’s gonna be VP....How dumb is that.....because he’s NOT a Senator.

“ When did you dream this up. IT CAN NOT HAPPEN....he’s not a Senator”

Actually, as noted in Post 18, it can happen and has happened multiple times.

In fact, it appears to have been more the norm prior to the middle of the 20th century.

Post 18 makes it rather clear that it is very constitutional.

With a link from Senate.gov, no less.
