On one hand, Maher is part of the problem. No doubt about that.

On the other hand, Maher occasionally says reasonable things to an audience that would otherwise not hear them. He’s particularly tough on those fools who try to excuse away Muslim extremism. He will have none of it.

Tally it all up, and Maher is probably doing more good than harm. But just barely.
