As I recall, in September 2004, a Sixty Minutes II show put forth some forged documents presented by none other than Dan Rather in an effort to help John Kerry in the presidential election.

Among those finding fault with the false assertion were online folks right here in FR! (I was part of the dialog, but my observations were nothing compared with the amazing things re (IIRC) typeface and page size and other proofs of forgery that were posted and gained historic "legs".)
