First publication: A group of Israeli travelers were subject to surveillance and attempted kidnapping by a group of Arabs and were foiled at the last moment by the intervention of the local police.
Last Monday, a group of five Israelis sat down in a restaurant at the Mercure Hotel in the Old City of Tbilisi. During the meal, an Israeli speaking Arabic approached the table and told the group members that in the bathroom he heard a conversation in Arabic that referred to their table.
The group did notice at the table next to them some men of Arab appearance, and noticed that they were occasionally going in and out of the hotel towards two cars parked outside the hotel. In addition, they saw a number of observers from the same camp that was examining them. It is about 11 Arabs.
At this point the tourists called Israel and asked for assistance from the police. After receiving no response, they contacted the local police. When the police arrived, the suspects fled, and the local police escorted the Israelis until their flight back to Israel.
"One said to the other, 'Here are the Jews,' and they entered the establishment. They were eight people and they were watching us all the time. We called the police, who referred us to the embassy, where they did not answer us," one of the Israeli tourists told News 14.
The National Security Headquarters stated in response that they do not refer to concrete cases in Georgia. However, the level of travel in the country has been warned at level two out of four, which recommends increased precautions in the event of a real fear of terrorist elements.
"In the event of a real fear of terrorist elements, the local security forces should be contacted, and then the MLA's travel warning center or the national situation room should be updated," the statement said. https://t.co/s8Uql5J2xh
Betrayed by their own embassy.
That sounds familiar.
Just like Benghazi in 2012.
Yes. That was exactly what I was thinking of.
There are non words for a betrayal that despicable.
no words.....
A close call, to be sure!
Probably a few liberals working there. Just like we have them here among the Dems. Admin.
No doubts
what we don’t know is how far the embassy was away. Did they have enough people to assist.
Could the embassy bring a armed response.
The embassy could have and should have done SOMETHING.
