Donald Trump says he’ll vote ‘yes’ on Amendment 4 to overturn Florida ban on abortion after 6 weeks

Former President Donald Trump says he’ll vote in favor of Florida’s abortion referendum that will appear on the ballot throughout the state for the Nov. 5 election.

NBC News reporter Dasha Burns on her X feed highlighted video of Trump telling her that he would vote to support the ballot initiative. He said, according to Burns, that he thinks Florida’s ban on abortion after six weeks is too restrictive.

“I think the six-week is too short, there has to be more time,” Trump said.

Florida’s ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy went into effect in May. The statewide referendum, called Amendment 4, would alter the state’s constitution to protect abortion until viability, in effect negating the six-week limitation on abortions that Gov. Ron DeSantis signed.

Trump, the Republican nominee for President, has previously said he thought the abortion issue should be decided by states and supported the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 vote in 2022 to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in America.

Trump had been noncommittal on abortion bans earlier this month.

“Uh, I’m going to announce that. I’m going to actually have a press conference on that at some point in the near future, so I don’t want to tell you now,” Trump said at Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8. “I think the abortion issue has been taken down many notches. I don’t think it’s a big factor anymore really.”

In the NBC interview Thursday, Trump went further beyond just the abortion issue to say he’d support access to in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and announced he supports government funding of the procedure for couples trying to conceive and he acknowledged insurance companies should cover the cost.

“We are going to be, under the Trump administration, we are going to be paying for that treatment,” Trump said in the NBC interview. “We’re going to be mandating that the insurance company pay.”

The Republican nominee has been a critic of far-right attempts to limit access to IVF since the Alabama Supreme Court ruled earlier this year the embryos considered for IVF procedures have actual personhood status and have protections as such under the law.

Why do expect Trump to talk like a smooth talking career politician? I admire Trump mainly because he says what he thinks and does what he says.

This is how bad it’s gotten: suburban women consider ABORTION to be the number one issue, not escalating food costs, not the possibility we’ll be wreathed in mushroom clouds, not Antifa/BLM or the possibility of death camps opening, but ABORTION!!!

That's where we at. Good for Trump to recognize that.

Trump's base knows that the stakes are high. It's not 2016 anymore.

Trump was not going to be allowed to skirt the issue. You can expect it in any debate that comes up because if he is interviewed the left will make sure he has to be grilled about it.

This issue is a losing issue for our side and they know it. This issue is also one the butthurt RDS ers like to cause division in their quest to retaliate against Trump.

“This is a state issue. And I’m not running for governor of Florida. So my Florida vote is private.”

Wow! That is a great answer.

I like his plain talking too, but that doesn’t mean i have to like everything he says. This is the first time that I’ve strongly disagreed with him.

Suburban women in Ancient times sacrificed their children on the altar of Moloch. God dealt with those women and their nations.

If sacrificing their children to Moloch is what the majority of women in this.country consider the most important issue, then God’s judgment on this nation is near, even at the door.

We will get the government we want and the government we deserve.

Stock up your pantry and load up on ammunition. The end is near.

But he is acting like a typical politician now, flip flopping and all.

Let's seek how much you admire him when he announces support for Semi-Automatic weapon ban, that ought to lock up the Suburban Women voters, it's their second most important issue after baby killing.

Our Presidential candidate and leader of the Republican Party has made an important endorsement to vote for Amendment 4, a signal to the entire nation, it isn’t just a guy’s one vote.

Trump really only looks good in contrast to the complete stupidity of the rest of the political scene.

In absolute terms he would bring us right to where we are because he spends just like any democrat, panders like a democrat, and nominates judges and other appointments like a typical gormless republican.

The second most important issue for Suburban Women voters is a Semi-Automatic weapons ban, so I'm sure yo will be crawling on broken glass to vote for him when announces support for that too.

He just lost the election with this statement.

Every pro-life activist I know has just gone AWOL on Trump. All the enthusiasm is gone. They are questioning whether they will even vote at all.

This is a hideously stupid self-inflicted wound. I hope someone close to Trump will explain to him how what he said was catastrophic for his campaign. I don't think he gets it.

Conception to 6 week-

‘Pro Life’- ‘you aren’t important enough. Live just another week and we will care then’..

Talk about a morally bankrupt compromise with the culture of death...

“ He can simply say that it’s a state’s rights issue and leave it there.”

The press would let him off the hook there? Really?

You’re wasting my time

Trump is trying to win an election in a country where a majority of the voters support legal access to abortion.

And like every Republican who has tried this trick in the past, it will not gain him a single vote, but will cost him the enthusiasm of pro-life activists and many tens of thousand of votes in key states.

Stupid, unforced error that will cost him the election unless he fixes things ASAP.

And I can’t see how it would hurt him much.

Go on twitter and see what the key pro-life activists are saying. They are denouncing Trump very vehemently and saying they're out. This is a betrayal, no two ways about it.

This will cost him the election unless it is fixed pronto.
