Why would we dare even build this if the country is in $34 trillion in debt and can't afford our bills? Oh, and by the way, aren't aircraft carriers obsolete now if the Houthis and their 1970s missiles can target them?

How about recognizing that the day of carriers is almost over.

To remain afloat they will have to stay very mobile in blue water and avoid the seas where they now allow force projection.

F/A-XX Fighter Is In Trouble.

We are only in the phase of artists' renditions of the plane, and it is already in trouble?

My goodness, is the DoD procurement process broken....

If we are evaluating the program by the need to field an aircraft, we didn’t even need the F22 or the JSF program, our F15s, F16s, and F18s have been perfectly servicable and would continue to be for far into the future.

But fielding aircraft wasn’t the point, it’s almost incidental so long as the defense contractors keep getting paid and lobbyist money keeps going to politicians.

A lot of the militaries of the world are realizing that war making is in transition right now.

No one has all the answers. Somethings FReepers say are pretty funny when these types of threads are posted.

My best answer is we’ve reached a point where the technologies we (think) we need are too costly to make into the numbers we (think) we need. We can make a lot of cheap, or a few of really advanced features. But no bucks, no Buck Rogers.

The generals and admirals are just starting to realize it.

This isn’t just an American dilemma; the Russians and Chinese have the same issues, as do the Europeans.

Does it even matter with ‘drones’ both air and sea.

Ukraine showed the Russian navy what the new technology can do.

This revolution is the same.

Carriers without a large fleet of of air and sea drones are just large targets.

Those er trillions are not military budget, but mostly illegal covd and bank loan pork... not to mention non profit leftist paramilitary funding and education funding

Half DoD budget is in woke education funding

Get the government out of building an aircraft and the cost would easily be cut in half. The government is like liberals, the F’ up everything they touch.
