How fares the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) project? The NGAD is designed to produce a new generation of fighter aircraft, replacing much of the Air Force’s legacy fleet and bringing a suite of new capabilities to the long-range strike mission. The NGAD was also supposed to revolutionize the defense industrial base (DIB) and change the way that the United States builds and buys fighter planes. But there are evidently some troubles. The Air Force seems to be backpedaling on its commitment to the NGAD, and the entire project appears to have left the DIB cold.

I remember when we thought a $110 million navy frigate was outrageous.
$300 million is a life cycle cost.
Using the same accounting, your car costs $100,000, after you throw in gas consumed, repairs, tires, insurance, licenses, etc.
This author, Robert Farley, has made a career of denigrating the Air Force, its mission, its equipment, and its people.
Of course, he has never been in a modern fighter, like a lot of self- laimed experts here on FreeRepublic.
Some models would be larger and with very long range, so they can carry pods of short-range hunter-killer drones to release and swarm-attack everything in a target area.
All models would be cheap enough to be considered expendable munitions.
The future of war includes a variety of autonomous killing machines controlled by time limits and target zones. The countermeasures will include communications jamming, direct-energy weapons, and autonomous drone-killer systems.
The side that runs out first, loses.
The USAF cannot afford planes or bombers. All part of the historic low 4% of the GDP allocated for the military. Meanwhile, JoeB wants to cut it even lower.
Defense is the only job required of the US government under the Constitution - all other spending is not required.
Jeepers, Mr Lucky, I haven't heard anyone use the word Jeepers since Pat Brady was riding around in his jeep Nellybelle on the set of Roy Rodgers. You sir are a Full Clown.
I am a former USAF officer.
The writer of this article was not too terribly hard to track down. He writes often about . . . frankly, things he is unqualified to write about.
His PhD is in political science.
It is a technology subject. For certain, politics will determine funding and maybe even missions, but it will not have anything to say about capability and enemy capability and tactics. Strategy? Maybe. But this is a tactical matter.
We are utterly buried by PhDs in subjects that are largely useless. It’s not a difficult dissertation to put together. Contrasted with Physics or Engineering. Then these people begin writing books and developing a voluminous record of publications that are intended to impress and simply should not. They don’t even know what phase differentials in a ring laser gyro do. How can they possibly know anything about navigation?
But be all that as it may be, if folks want to know what is the greatest threat to US national security, well, it has nothing to do with next gen fighter decision making.
It is a report over the past month or two out of China. They say they have a technique to defeat stealth. The quoted methodology looked worrisome.
The End.
Must hurt to be outwitted by a full clown.
“His PhD is in political science.”
Which right down there with a PhD in education, journalism, law, and other bottom dwellers.
Jeepers Mr Lucky!!
Jeepers?
But don't fret, comrade, your English is much better than my Russian.
Jeepers Mr Lucky. Thanks for the swell answer 🤡👍
