They did nothing that protected him. The shot just missed him, then Trump ducked behind the podium.
As has been pointed out there are only 2 conclusions
Either complete in ineptness on the part of dozens if supposed highly trained people OR it was deliberate.

From what I read on Daily Mail UK which often provides information our media pretends they don’t have, it seems the shooter had planted his backpack prior to the event. How long prior? Who knows!? But he was found with a range finder at the entrance gate when he set off the alarm, yet they LET HIM IN ANYWAY! At another point he is seen with a magically appearing backpack. Not much sweeping of the area done before hand either apparently.
I believe it is leaning towards this.
I had the pleasure of shooting with some Austin SWAT snipers but really was my pleasure watching them getting their hats handed to them by a Vietnam vet.
These yahoos were shooting at 100 yard target and were hi fiving each other for 4” groups with bipods, long range optics, muzzle breaks.
When they were through patting each other on the ass, the vet stood up, grabbed his M14, walked to the line and laid down a 4 shot with a 3/4’ group. Oh, and he was shooting open sights from the kneeling position
The ONLY person who could order an investigation of the magnitude to find out what REALLY happened would be Trump after replacing top officials at the FBI, and they ALMOST had him killed. Now, they are TRULY desperate. More than likely, there WILL be another attempt in order to cover this all up.

The sniper team had the assassin in their crosshairs for at least 45 seconds before he shot and the police and SS were alerted to the shooter climbing on top of the building WITH A RIFLE for at least 3 minutes before he shot, YET DID NOTHING TO STOP HIM.
Damned if that isn’t a conspiracy, they have the most incompetent police and SS in the whole effing world.
P.S. Where is the sniper team that took him out? What is their story? With all the technology, I can guarantee that the radio chatter was recorded Saturday. But I’ll bet that it gets “accidentally” erased.
