According to a report from CNN citing law enforcement officials, Crooks bought the ladder from Home Depot on the day he tried to assassinate Trump from the roof of a nearby building.
If this report is accurate and to be believed, Crooks may have made it past law enforcement and the Secret Service carrying a very tall ladder and used it to climb the building unnoticed.
CNN reports:
On Friday, he went to a shooting range where he was a member, and practiced firing, a law enforcement official told CNN. The next morning, Crooks went to a Home Depot, where he bought a five-foot ladder, and a gun store, where he purchased 50 rounds of ammunition, the official said.
Then, Crooks drove his Hyundai Sonata about an hour north, joining thousands of people from around the region who flocked to Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He parked the car outside the rally, with an improvised explosive device hidden in the trunk that was wired to a transmitter he carried, the official said. Then, investigators believe, he used his newly-bought ladder to scale a nearby building, and opened fire on the former president.

Their advance team went through the entire area. They would have seen any staged items.
Exactly.
Happens more often than I care to think about.
I’ll bet he’s wishing he had that ladder now. He may have looked at his new neighbors all 72 of them resembling Helen Thomas ;>))
forget the ladder, the van, the plates, the cell phone, the house, the bombs??, the whatever and focus:
walk the secret service event security process playbook and highlight in red every protocol, every task that was not performed and identify the coconspirators in this assassination plot.
(Clever kid - bought a ladder that morning and knew right where to place it on the only building that had no protections, yet was 130 yards direct line of sight for a kill shot on a former President.)
Precisely! How would Crooks know that Secret Service agents weren’t on that roof?
Someone told Crooks where to go, to crawl along the roof and what angle he could shoot Trump from.
Someone also put that ladder there for him.
.
Crooks was seen 30 mins before the shooting by multiple LE with a Range-Finder. Pictures of him labeled as suspicious behavior were sent to the Protective team.

Some truth to this.
One would think the NSA would be helping out here.
There’s no way a five foot ladder would get up on that roof. So it must have been a lower roof that was accessible and the ladder to get up were he could shoot.
this was how the Arizona van story started. don’t know if Fox ever retracted it:

I saw that white van being carried away on a tow truck from the scene.
Shockingly effective for a terrifyingly wide range of places.
That is a 12 foot ladder, plastic top step just under the roof edge of that building connector (shielded by trees). He had to have stashed the firearm before likely in those cedars. He could not have walked up with both a ladder that size and a rifle case/cover.
Could be wrong— maybe everyone was asleep. And one more thing- the factory parking— will have to check if it was gated and locked. Incredible, as apparently local law was using the very building he set up on the roof of— for staging area for the officers (cause it was hot up on the roof— so reported).
.
There is a Fox Interview of a man on a near street, they said it was very close to venue.
He said he watched the Police open the Van and look inside, and then all jump back at once. Telling others to get back. He said then there was a bomb squad and they later had a shot of a full size American Van being towed out.
The man said it had Arizona plates.
.
Yes.
I saw the interview and other outlets had pictures of a White Van they called the suspect’s vehicle.
This tells me there’s other culprits involved since he drove a Hyundai Sonata. The security cameras at Lowe’s would see what he drove up in and parked.
Ain't buying it, nope.
.
Or he made multiple trips that very day.
He’s walking around with a range-finder.
One would think their technology would highlight metal objects to ID guns in the pre-clearance and securing of the scene.
