On Aug. 7, 1974, U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater, R-Ariz., U.S. House Minority Leader John Rhodes, R-Ariz., and U.S. Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott, R-Pa., made it clear to the embattled Nixon that he faced all-but-certain impeachment, conviction and removal from office in connection with the Watergate scandal. So it took only THREE members of his minority party to get him to resign. Now we are up to TWELVE Democrats telling Biden to bail out of the 2024 race.Nixon announced his resignation the next evening, effective at noon on Aug 9, 1974.
Would Biden end his quest for re-election and NOT resign immediately?
Yeah. I remembered Goldwater led the delegation to tell Nixon it was over... sort of playing elder statesman.
It would be cool if Biden resigned on August 9, 2024 — FIFTY years to the day after Nixon resigned. It’s only a month away.
Numbers can be odd things... case in point, it took 5 “journalists” to write the above article. In a weird way that’s the most interesting thing about the story to me...
but those were three big cheese politicians of the time.
so maybe what is needed are three big cheese politicians of our time.
to calculate, who are the three current holders of those old big cheese positions?
one would probably be obama. another would be jeffries. i’m not sure who the third would be since analogies seem to break down due to current circumstances. but one can perhaps get a sense of the magnitude of political swagger needed from the first two.
More to it than that. It was clear that if he didn't resign he was going to be impeached.
But this was after the 1972 election Nixon won, same with Johnson, he didn’t run for reelection b4 the 1968 primary. Joey already won all the dem primary votes.
Dems are over a barrel
