Four more Democrats in Congress call for Biden to step aside in the 2024 race

WASHINGTON — Four additional Democrats in Congress told their lawmaker colleagues during a phone call Sunday that they believe President Joe Biden should step aside to allow someone else to be the party’s nominee for president, according to multiple people on the call and familiar with the discussion.

The House Democrats who said Biden should drop out of the race were Adam Smith of Washington, Jerry Nadler of New York, Mark Takano of California and Joe Morelle of New York.

All four lawmakers hold top positions on key committees and bring the number of Democrats in Congress who have called for Biden to reconsider his bid for president to nearly a dozen.

Smith is the top Democrat on the Armed Services Committee. Similar positions are held by Nadler on the Judiciary Committee, Takano on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee and Morelle on the House Administration Committee.

The four lawmakers and the Biden campaign did not immediately provide comments on the call.

The conversation took place Sunday afternoon during a call convened by House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York. During the call, which lasted over an hour, Biden’s future as the leader of the party was heavily called into question, according to the sources.

Each lawmaker was given a chance to speak in order of seniority. Even those who did not explicitly call on Biden to bow out expressed concerns that he is not the strongest candidate to beat former President Donald Trump in November, additional sources said.

There was an overwhelming sense among lawmakers that Vice President Kamala Harris would be a better nominee than Biden and that she would be the obvious choice to replace Biden should he exit the race, the additional sources said.

Jeffries’ office declined to comment on the call.

I agree.
The cognitively impaired deserve to have their voices heard and represented.
They’ve been voting in good faith for Democrats for decades!

If she ends up the nominee the GOP needs to hammer on the fact that she misled the public about Biden’s condition. She’s not ready for prime time, for sure, and will probably sink herself anyway. But her covering for Biden, misleading the public, etc., needs to be made a huge liability for her.

If Kamala-lalala becomes the candidate she will have to debate Trump at least once.

Goldwater and Howard Baker went to him and told Nixon that he would be impeached and did not have the votes in the Senate.

That would have been a majority in the house and 2/3’ds of the Senate.

Obviously they were a majority Democrat, but a majority of Republicans were with them.

Funny…that was 50 years ago this summer. Time rhymes.

Trump will have to restrain himself from bringing up the Willy Brown shenanigans.... she’d still be nobody if that hadn’t happened..

They’re trying to distance themselves from Biden, all the while knowing the DEMs will do everything in their power to steal the upcoming presidential election.

Oh, I have full confidence that he will select a great nickname for her and would trounce her in a debate.

There are so many things other than Willie Brown’s willy to tag her with.
He could ask her how short the yellow school bus was she went to school on.

Apart from confidence in DJT I have a lot of confidence that the DNC and the Dem base are and will be too fractured to muster a win for her or any other DemonRat.

Much will depend on who they slide into the VP slot... or perhaps they’ll keep her in that spot and bring in a heavy hitter... Hillary probably wants another go at it. Bongino thinks that she is the only one Harris will defer to.

If I were her advisor, I would tell her not to debate Trump. After all, that’s what sunk SlowJoe. It’s probably not worth the risk.

All Kamala need say is, “I will not debate a felon.” Half the country would applaud. 90% of the media would applaud. Which just goes to show how messed up the country is.

Cackle-dee and Cackle-dum... that ticket would become annoying fast. The press would love it as another “historic first.”

Really bad when you lose fat ass, Jerry Nadler of New York. Wasn’t he the head of the Democratic house judiciary committee under Pelosi?

Not sure if he was ever head of Judiciary Committee but he’s been on it for as long as I can remember... probably the ranking member. First time I recall seeing him was when he was defending Bill Clinton there.

How many called on Nixon to resign? I think lots of Democrats were calling on Nixon to resign.

They are only worried about the fate of the Democratic candidates in November if Biden is their Presidential candidate.

More pertinently, if Biden is not fit to serve as President for another term, why not demand he resign immediately? As awful as Kamala is in many ways, at least she doesn't have dementia. Trump may prefer to face Biden in November, but he should be equally effective against Kamala...and she would have nearly 4 months to demonstrate to the country that she is not up to the job.

but those were three big cheese politicians of the time.

so maybe what is needed are three big cheese politicians of our time.

to calculate, who are the three current holders of those old big cheese positions?

one would probably be obama. another would be jeffries. i’m not sure who the third would be since analogies seem to break down due to current circumstances. but one can perhaps get a sense of the magnitude of political swagger needed from the first two.
