Obama was not even on the primary ballot in some states vs Hillary. They rationalized a way to get him delegates there despite this. I recall Hillary’s people in the room raging that they were denying her the nomination despite having more delegates.
They then began subtracting her delegates.

It’s one of the faults of the way our election system works. With it’s inborn system of counting ballots that are inconsistent nation wide, with little ability to get an actual count and not leave room for malfeasance with a secondary election count established by parties (electoral vote), and the opportunity for people to make ballots disappear from actual voters to replace them with ballots of non-existant votes, then it is destined to be taken advantage of.

I have a friend who wants him to stay in because his staff can prop him up (a la Weekend at Bernie’s, I guess?). She claims he’s a better choice than the “convicted felon”. TDS is a real thing, but I have to also believe there is a spiritual blindness going on.
His stubbornness is not surprising. Anyone here ever try to get a relative with dementia give up their car keys, have someone manage their finances, or suggest assisted living for them? They won’t agree and they get more stubborn as time progresses.

Anecdote time:
After one of my grandfathers died his wife (my grandmother) was living alone in a very large house.
My parents wanted to move her into an assisted living facility.
It was my father who got to take her to visit one and see if he could convince her to make the move.
They went to the facility and the employees gave them a tour.
My grandmother was very pleasant and charming—shook the hands of all the employees—and let them know what a great place they had.
My father and the employees were convinced they had made the “sale”.
After leaving the facility my grandmother waited until they were out of earshot of all of the assisted living employees.
She then gave my father a hard stare and said “over my dead body”.

P.S. A few years later her house burned down with her in it.
The fire department risked life and limb to rescue her. She did move in to the facility at that time.
