Then again, maybe I'm thinking in US terms, this being France it might very well work. Scare the voters back into supporting the left by threatening to burn down their homes if they don't get back on the reservation and vote "correctly", the voters cower and say, "Better do what the left tells us!"

France is your country. Half the English language comes from it. Much of western thought. You want to do ostrich calisthenics, it’s your funeral.
The French weren’t always like that. Charlie Magnet used to kick a@@. So did Jean Lafayette and Charles de Gaulle. Deep down, they are not surrender monkeys. What could bring out that better part of their psyche is a big question. Maybe this is it.

For the most part the French soldiers fought bravely against the Wehrmacht. The problem was the German Generals were fighting WW2 and the French Generals were fighting WW1.
I remember the most iconic church in Paris burning.... And cover up of the Muslims who went there.
Anyone could make that mistake ... they are twins, after all.

Perhaps deliberately? As excessively smart/dumb as the French are, despite all their shtick, they should not be a sacrificial baby on the altar of Baal. They’re part of the family of The West, despite all their mishigas. You should not be okay with what’s happening to them. Luxembourg or Belgium? Maybe. But not France. America would not have been without France’s help.
They also had no backup plan. They failed to go beyond the Maginot Line, confident that it would work. WW I taught everyone about “defense in depth” and tanks, so they were fighting WW I in 1914, not 1918. Dumb dumb dumb.
