The city of Los Angeles has a homeless problem. Okay, a lot of California's big cities do (given who runs it), but what did Los Angeles do about it? Shuffle them off like they did for Xi Jinping when he visited San Francisco? Let churches and private entities do something about it?
Nope, they built a fancy high-rise apartment block, just for homeless people, right in the middle of downtown.
And believe me, it's nicer than some people's houses, boasting 228 studio apartments and 47 one-bedroom apartments, a gym, an art room, a library, and a music room.

Working and paying taxes is for suckers. Be a homeless loser instead and live like a king!
It’s called The Graft Towers.
Cant you just hear the sap-happy progs?
“Homeless people should be treated with dignity
and we’ll make the taxpayers pay for it.”
It will be completely trashed within six months of occupation.
No question.
Who’s going to be managing this facility? Someone with a corrections background? They had better be tough as nails, because they’re going to dealing with pure crazy, day in and day out.
I agree that that has been the case in the past and likely case here as well. Is there no possible way to manage this property that results in it staying nice or are the residents by definition too feral, mentally ill, drug addled, sociopathic to have any other result? I know this sounds like the saps who say communism never works because the right people aren’t running it the right way but COULD such a property be managed so that the destructive homeless are chased back out to living under bridges and overpass and those who stay live responsibly? Could a tough love approach teach lasting lessons in behavior here?
A couple of weeks after moving in, that ‘nicer’ feeling will dissipate... The fridge, stove, washer, dryer and dishwashing machine will ‘disappear’. Then the walls will be full of holes, dents and scrapes and in about a month or two, that once ‘nicer’ space will be a meth den, or crack house.
What’s the selection process? Whats to stop someone from faking they’re homeless from getting a free place to live?
Didn’t take long for the Great Society tenements of the 60’s to turn into hell-holes.
That will not be true for long.
The architectural style is quite Soviet in a cold and yet unappealing way…
Hard-working, overtaxed citizens FORCED to pay and the IRS will make it happen. Isn’t unrestricted BIG GOVERNMENT great? /s
does that come with a cleaning service?
Great.....smirk.
Boston harbor needs more tea tossed into it.
I could do it if it saved me $3000 month rent in LA.
It would look like Eddie Murphy”s apartment in Coming to America.
