The Atlantic Justified ‘Degrowth Communism’ to Fight Climate Change … Yes, You Read That Right

Leftist outlets like The Atlantic seem to have a bad habit of yanking the most insane political ideas out of the ether to make them sound less nutty than they are. Its recent treatment of “degrowth communism” to fight climate change is no exception.

“Is America Ready for ‘Degrowth Communism,’” read the magazine’s head-turning May 28 article. The author, Atlantic writing fellow Christopher Beam, tried to soften the expected blowback from such an off-the-wall idea being popularized by leftist Japanese philosopher Kohei Saito. Saito “knows he sounds like a madman,” Beam wrote. “That’s kind of the point,” he continued. “The crazy idea” of “degrowth communism,” Beam summarized, is based on the proposition “that there will always be a correlation between economic output and carbon” emissions. In essence, wrote Beam, “the best way to fight climate change is for wealthy nations to cut back on consumption and reduce the ‘material throughput’ that creates demand for energy and drives GDP.”

Beam pontificated how “[d]egrowth captures a core truth of the fight against climate change: What we’re doing is not enough and might even be making things worse.” He further claimed, “Degrowth might fail too, but in the eyes of its supporters, at least it’s directionally correct. It’s the protest vote of climate activism.” Beam wasted 3,661 words pushing deranged propaganda credentialing Saito’s “degrowth communism.”

Well of course. Hasn’t that been the point all along, to destroy the middle class and impose communism on us in the name of whatever crisis they come up with?

For 2 centuries we've been in the Modern Warm Period, which is no different from the prior warm periods.

While we're in the Holocene Glacial period that's gone on for 12,000 year (that is trending down):

That glacial period is part of the Quaternary ice age that we're in that began 2.5 million years ago (trending up).

“Is America Ready for ‘Degrowth Communism,’”

The corporate fascist left has been conditioning the public for it for 140 years.

Hopefully, they haven't got that right either.

The Atlantic is filled with sewage and trash and crabs.

It’s also the name of an ocean.

The psychopaths of this world are perfectly happy for normal people to torture and kill themselves.

Net zero in the climate agenda is really nothing short of Soviet-style central planning. Every sector of our economy is subject to long range planning to meet net zero goals.

Look for the insistence that due to the advent of AI we can now know enough to make central planning work. It's a rehash of the ancient "we'll do it right this time" trope and it's just as stupid as it's always been. And it isn't the only painful, failed trope to be updated:

Degrowth might fail too, but in the eyes of its supporters, at least it’s directionally correct.

Sound familiar? "Directionally" correct means ideologically correct, that it matches the narrative and to hell with the experimental evidence. It's reimagining starvation as plenty, fact as fantasy.

The left wants us to kill ourselves. They are upset we aren’t cooperating or doing it quickly enough.

Someone needs to educate these enviro commies.

The USSR, now Russia has literally dried up the Aral sea, to grow cotton. Beijing air was so polluted that oxygen stations were built all over the city so people could get a breath of fresh air. Chernobyl?

Even today, it what was formerly communist countries, they are suffering from what the commies left behind, poor infrastructure, caused by mismanagement & corruption.

Communism is just dictatorship by another name. See Stalin, Castro, & Ortega for reference. The people are the least of the regime’s concerns. Stalin starved 13M of his own people with his stupid agricultural policies.

All these protestors, if given their preferences, would be the first to go to the gulag.

“We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.”
Net zero is not conducive with a first world lifestyle. It was nice while it lasted.
