Boston Mayor Calls for the Decriminalization of Crime [semi-satire]

Mayor Michelle Wu (D) says, "separating out people who commit 'quality of life' thefts and putting them in prison makes the kind of unity that progressives seek for society impossible." Among the activities that the Mayor considers unworthy of punishment are trespassing, shoplifting, malicious destruction of property, physical threats, and breaking and entering.

"Just because someone makes life difficult for you by breaking into your home and threatening to stab you is not sufficient cause for law-enforcement to hassle, pursue, and arrest these people," she said. "Who among us has not done something similar at some point in our lives? The type of eye-for-an-eye justice that has polluted civilization for millennia unnecessarily creates barriers between people with different values when what we should be doing is turning the other cheek."

Sadly, Wu's isn't a lone voice for letting criminals ply their profession without undue interference from police. The Democrat majority in the Illinois legislature is pushing a bill that will eliminate the words criminals and offenders from the statute books. These terms will be replaced with "justice-impacted individuals." Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) said "we can't teach people to get along if we insist that those who don't respect the lives and property of others mustn't steal from or assault people. We have no right to impose our values on others. Fortunately, many of our justice-impacted individuals are willing to sell protection against their predations for regular weekly payments. These modest payments can prevent costly outlays like if your home or place of business is set on fire, or expensive medical treatments you may incur by being late with your weekly payments. As I see it, a symbiotic relationship brings benefits that a hostile relationship can't match."

Mayor: "The type of eye-for-an-eye justice that has polluted civilization for millennia unnecessarily creates barriers between people with different values when what we should be doing is turning the other cheek." ... "

Decent folk: "Are these people your brothers?"

Mayor: "They most certainly are."

Decent folk: "Then you won't mind if they come onto your property and steal your stuff".

I hope he doesn’t have any daughters or granddaughters.

It’s both. The major does want to eliminate prosecutions for the listed crimes. I just boiled down her lame reasoning to a brief and clear meaning.

I've lived fairly close to Boston my entire life (except for time in the military). I worked in Boston for almost 30 years. However,in recent years the only time I've ever set foot in the city is for health care and the airport.

And I don't plan to change my attitude...ever!

I have lived in southern NH for 38 years. Other than the occasional trip to Fenway Park or Logan, I am the same.

Last October my older brother was in town. He stayed in Cambridge because his son was looking at Harvard/MIT for graduate school. I could not believe they had two of the lanes in the main street in Cambridge shut down for BIKE LANES.

I always here the drive time WEEI radio show people talking about how stupid are the bike lanes in Boston. How it screws up already bad traffic by eliminating half the lanes that NOBODY uses.

As we’ve seen over the last few days, if Trump and Republicans criticize the recent kangaroo court in new York City, the MSM collectively shout, “They are attacking the criminal justice system! They are endangering the lives of judges and juries!” But the left has carte blanche not just to criticize an occasional bad verdict, but the entire system of policing, prisons, and even laws themselves.

On the occasions when I go in to see a doctor I park in the suburbs and take the T in. When I go to the airport I either take commuter rail or family or a friend takes me. I never drive in Boston...and I didn’t when I worked there either.

I do not mind driving on the weekend. Although the traffic on 128 is always busy.

When I went to Fenway (once a year) I take the Pike in. Get off at the Prudential and park right under the Sheraton right off of Boylston. It is about a 15 minute walk from there.

Better to take the T at Woodland Station in Newton (just off 128) and go to Fenway or Kenmore Station. It's particularly good if you have a handicapped placard because with a placard you park free there.

The Boston mayor deserves a one way trip to the lunatic asylum for a permanent stay.
