If re-elected, would Donald Trump end U.S. support for Ukraine? He certainly sounds as if he would. On the campaign trail, he routinely describes Ukraine as a burden to the U.S. and declares his eagerness to see the war end, which he promises to achieve through negotiations in a mere 24 hours. Trump has also made clear his admiration for Vladimir Putin and dismissive attitude toward the European Union. Many observers worry that once back in office, he would condone, tacitly or even directly, Russia’s efforts to dominate Ukraine.
But it wouldn’t be an easy move for Trump to make, and there is reason to believe that his rhetoric on Ukraine is more political bluster than plan of action.
Trump’s dislike of Ukraine has many sources. It stems in part from his first impeachment trial in 2019, when he was charged with interfering in the 2020 election by putting pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to announce an investigation of Joe Biden. The subsequent war in Ukraine has provided ammunition for one of Trump’s longstanding foreign policy complaints: that the U.S. does too much and Europe too little for Europe’s security. He has even suggested that the U.S. wouldn’t come to the defense of allies who don’t do their share for NATO. And of course there is the politics of aid to Ukraine: Democrats champion Ukraine and revile Russia, inspiring some in Trump’s orbit to do the opposite—to make Russia a synonym for strong leadership and to decry Ukraine as corrupt and parasitical.
Against this backdrop, it is instructive to scrutinize Trump’s actual record on Russia and Ukraine. Much of what he said about the two countries on the campaign trail in 2016 had little or no bearing on the actions he took as president.

You think we are in the winning position to dictate terms? Amazing, really amazing
Trump’s not going to put US troops in Ukraine (the only escalation short of nukes left). He is not going to further fund an unwinnable war. To believe any of this silliness you’d have to think Trump is stupid enough to believe this catastrophe can salvaged. No one is that stupid, especially not Trump. He will stop it immediately with negotiations.
3 years - trillions of dollars and they’re worried Trump, the madman will “escalate” the war? Retards…
True.
"Trump's dislike of Ukraine has many sources"
Trump is not anti-Ukraine. This is an illusion created by both the left and right for their own ends.
It was the State Department, Col. Vindmann, and Sen. Schiff who came up with the impeachment, not Ukraine. Zelensky's government backed Trump's version of their phone call used to impeach him. Facts conveniently forgotten to fit current narratives.
Trump wants the war to end, and Europe to own up to its own national defense priorities on their own. He does not want Europe depending on the US while micromanaging how we defend them. He's following Reagan in that being militarily strong is a good way to avoid war. Tyrants go after the weak, not the strong.
Putin views Europe and the US as weak. Trump wants to get to strength, then give Putin a deal he can't refuse.
Putin will demand Kharkiv, Odessa and Kherson to end the war. Which will result in a landlocked Ukraine.
Putin knows that the day the war ends, NATO is going to send NATO troops to secure Kyiv.
Research what Trump has to say about it, then.
We can defend the Europe of today as they insist, but that Europe -- including Russia -- is dying due to mass immigration, Leftist ideology, demographic decline, corruption, and slow economic growth.
Can Putin and Russia be dealt with and pressured into a reasonably good deal over Ukraine? In time, Trump can almost certainly do it -- a turn of events that the DC uniparty cannot prescribe.
That would eventually make Russia go broke on lost oil revenue. No money, no Uke war.
Why do you think Putin endorsed Biden?

They’re trying desperately to undermine Trump’s support from the right.
Is there any lie that you will not post Biden stooge?
Anyone with half a brain realizes Ukraine is a SHTF event in the making. It won’t matter who is President.
The reality is Biden is going to screw it up leaving the United State no other choice in Ukraine and the Middle East.
“ They’re trying desperately to undermine Trump’s support from the right.”

EXACTAMUNDO!
Michael Kimmage has to write “What If” articles about Trump while the smarter writers at WSJ get to write about business. It must suck being a boot licking toadie.
Another “journalist” pulling a story out of his ass. How do pathetically desperate they are now. Yesterday’s rally of 80,000-100,000 will be a huge trigger, and we’re gonna see a lot more of this nonsense.
