I enjoy most of his catalogue but I do find myself gravitate to his earlier stuff more than his later stuff… and yes a lot of the songs that weren’t hits are great
The entertainer is another one I enjoy though I know that did get some air play in it’s day, it too is not as well known

You can only so long in your career before you start repeating yourself, and Billy was very self-conscious about that, that’s why he stopped making original songs after The River Of Dreams.
Actually I find that refreshing. And why to this day he’s as popular as ever, he didn’t wear out his welcome.

Yeah some of his lesser known songs are killer as well. Love the “Entertainer”.

He was doing a concert recently, and he spotted his ex-wife in the audience, so he dedicated a song to her. (It had been written for her anyway.)

I’ll take the whole “Nylon Curtain” album.
And like others here have said - a LOT of the “Songs From the Attic” album. (Streetlife Serenader for one..)

When I first heard “Only the good die young” I was shocked by the lyrics. It is sacrilegious but I do like the song for some reason. There are a few words he merely mumbles in the song.

“Only the Good Die Young”?
Sigh. As a young Catholic girl I found it offensive, appalling. I wondered what Catholics ever did to him for him to write a song like that. I did not know that there were many men who had no respect for chastity, for waiting for marriage, and ridiculed it. Billy Joel is talented but there is a part of him that is callous, insensitive to those who strive for Godliness. Maybe he did me a favor to wise me up and prepare me for the long slog toward meeting my husband. But as a kid it was a sock in the stomach when it came on the radio.
