FReeper fans or not fans of The Chosen TV series

1. This thread is focused on the production of SEASON FIVE - spoiler alerts apply here.

2. Additionally, questions comments opinions about the release of SEASON FOUR

——-

My BLUF:

I had the privilege of attending the premiere of Season FOUR - well at least the first 3 episodes of season 4

I also had the privilege of seeing all 8 episodes in theaters more than once

That said, many fans rely on the FREE worldwide release of The Chosen TV series on their app or on various platforms - seasons 1-3 are widely available for free on many platforms. However there is a pending “legal issue” that is preventing or at least delaying the full release of season FOUR on the various streaming platforms - Little is known about the specifics of the litigation outside of “Angel Studios vs The Chosen”

What say you?

Which Word? KJV? NIV? NEB? NKJV? Greek? etc., etc. Dogma and Legalistic holier than thou-ism drives people away from the Church.

The Chosen is a good show.

The Chosen being Protestant in origin does not, for example, reflect pious Catholic belief regarding Mary, the mother of our Lord.

She’s portrayed by an older-looking woman, careworn and not attractive.

By contrast, pious belief, influenced by uncorrupted knowledge of Mary’s Immaculate Conception, and the fact that no sin, not even the Original Sin of Adam and Eve, ever touched her, has Mary at this time at an enduring peak of the finest of human female beauty, and frankly looking no older than Jesus himself.

Well said Heartland. My family is looking forward to seeing the next seasons. I watch cautiously, and with a solid fluency in the Bible, both OT and NT (though it will never be enough! 😉) so I feel like I am able to provide discernment for the "less-studied" in our viewing crowd. I agree with factmart that working out the sermon on the mount with Matthew seemed silly and can only hope they went that route to build up the importance of the actual event. I was super disappointed they did not deliver the entire sermon in that episode.
As for the actors and their beliefs, I don't really care, as long as the writers eisegesis doesn't get out of hand. Then, truly, the series could be dangerous.
I always thought Jenkins seemed sincere when he spoke about the project and it looks like it's the Mormons pulling some shady financial greed action. I'm the naive one who is still shocked when other people who profess to be Christians act like everything but 😞

You are truly ignorant of the differences yet uniformity of the main English translations and the Greek text.

They can never do Jesus justice because they don’t believe the Eucharist. So much is missed in every good point raised. Sad.

The Chosen is a great work, it will never contradict the Bible. It makes the Bible come to life for many.

The Chosen is a fictional work. It has already contradicted the Bible in many ways that people can find by doing simple searches on the internet. The videos you watch of this fiction have just enough heresy in them to lead many astray. Keep watching at your own peril. It is best in the coming days to download the FREE Youversion application and open the Word of the Living God. You can spend 15-30 minutes of reading the scriptures versus watching fiction. The danger in the Chosen is all of the words that are “added” to the fictional mouth of the fictional Jesus create in people’s minds and hearts this version of the TV Jesus. People will come to “believe” in the teachings and sayings of TV-Jesus over the true Son of the Living God that are recorded in the Holy Bible.

It has NEVER contradicted the Bible.
Show me a list of how it has.
Some people get upset about because it doesn’t follow the human built version of the church denomination that they follow .
You should instead be rejoicing about stories of changed lives and formerly informed Bibles that are now being read with passion .
Throw off your westernized view of Christianity that we have created .

The rehearsing of the Sermon on the Mount for example that gets some people in a tizzy.
Maybe Jesus really did this, maybe he didn’t .
But you realize while on earth HE WAS FULLY HUMAN for those years.

And I know people that have expressed similar opinions to yours. They then watched an episode or two with an open mind and it clicked with them.

The Chosen is trying to reach the many unchurched in the world and bring them to Jesus and the Bible.
It brings the people we have read about to life and shows they were actual real people at one time.
It also shows the context of the time they lived in which is very helpful to understanding the time of Jesus.

BINGO! This is why I warn people away from it and tell them them I don't watch it and don't recommend other people do. I've had experiences similar to what others on this thread had where someone in in a Bible study will pipe up, "Yeah, but on the Chosen they said..."

Maybe someone with a strong background in studying the Scriptures might be immune to this, but I think it's foolish and dangerous to offer this watered-down and often fictional re-telling of the Gospel to be their first exposure to it. I think it would result in a shallow and short-lived faith, just like the parable of the seeds in the bad soil.

That is to bad and sad. The show is being translated into many languages and it is helping to give the unchurched and unsaved, both here and abroad, an opportunity to see a show that can draw them in with the interesting and plausible interactions of the Apostles and believers with Jesus Christ; when they lived 2000 years ago.

Additionally, the show intends to direct people to The Bible, where the Truth and Gospel message thrives.

I too support The Chosen. I went to the first Chosen Conference and watched all of season four at the theater. Wonderfully directed and terrific acting. I can only hope that it gets resolved soon.(Get It?)

I have many friends and fellow believers who have to wait until it is released to the public. Dallas Jenkins has repeatedly said that it and all future episodes will be released to the public for free at some point. The thing we can do is say a little prayer that it’s sooner rather than later.

Another thing we can be involved in is helping out by getting more folks to pay it forward.

People will complain about anything. Face Palm Jesus is nothing more than another telling of a Biblical account like Heston’s 10 Commandments. The Chosen is more of a Devotion than an interpretation of the Bible.

But you realize while on earth HE WAS FULLY HUMAN for those years.

Jesus was Emmanuel … God with us…. Fully God, fully man.

Subtle insertions in the TV Jesus will insert the heresies that make Jesus out to have sinned or for Him to be just a human. Jesus was God with us. When the producers invent words and portray Jesus they are in fact creating a new gospel and a new image of the Living God. It reintroduces the problem that Adam and Eve had with the serpent… “Did God say?” Except in a new more problematic way with “God said… ‘fill in the blank’” Every time the producer injects words, with artistic license, coming out of the mouth of the TV Jesus he is producing doctrinal interpretation of God with us. That is one of the most dangerous things to do. But, it is all a fulfillment of the end times when people will be deceived. I don’t need my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ portrayed in a Hollyweird fashion and I don’t need people inventing words He never spoken!

“ Jesus was Emmanuel … God with us…. Fully God, fully man.”

Yes. The fully man part ate food and drank liquid.
He is the only sinless person.
But being fully human he would have spoke as a human , run as a human And felt pain like a human.
Showing that is not blasphemous, it simply makes the words from the Bible real and pertinent to many who have previously ignored the Bible

That’s a good thing. We need revival and a turning to Jesus.

The Chosen is by all accounts not a retelling of the Bible. It is not meant to be authoritative, or an historical production. The creators have never claimed that that was their plan. The title “The Chosen”, is not referring to Jesus, but to his disciples. It shows us a very unique perspective as to what the disciples’ thoughts and experiences may have been.

Because of that, it cannot be purely biblical because there is very little in the Bible about the backgrounds of the disciples. They have a Catholic priest, a Messianic Rabbi, and a Protestant pastor as advisors. Of course they don’t all agree 100%, but there are changes made when one or the other find something contradictory or offensive.

No one should be referring to the chosen as a biblical authority, and if someone does, that would be a very good opportunity to explain to them why it isn’t and guide them to more reliable sources. It doesn’t mean nobody should watch it, or that doesn’t have some spiritual value.

I agree that the sermon on the Mount “rehearsal”, seemed a bit strange at first, but again the whole series is from the perspective of the disciples, so once you think that it is for Matthew’s sake, it makes sense.

I also liked the background on Peter as it related to the walking on the water scene. Of course it was entirely fictional, but it also makes sense that something was bothering Peter because he saw Jesus, whom he had already acknowledged was God, walking on water, and Peter said, “If you are who you say you are...” How could he see that, and question that Jesus was God?

As for the rainbow flag, it was explained that the crew are free to express what they want within reason. No rainbow banners or signs are allowed, but on personal property there are some patches, and the first rainbow in a video was not even noticed by the production crew. There are many hours of behind the scenes video shot, so for someone to see one more rainbow flag in one more background does not mean that the production is promoting LGBT, but it does say something about the people who are spending the time and energy to try to find a gotcha moment.

There are a lot of things in the chosen that I don’t agree with, but overall, it gives a new perspective and a fresh look at what the disciples may have been going through. I’ve not seen anything that is contrary to the Bible, although by their own admission they are elaborating. I think this is a wonderful way to bring people to the Bible, but shouldn’t be considered by anybody a substitute for it. The creators make no bones about agreeing with this.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. I think you will miss a good, creative, thought provoking supplement to the Bible and the history that we all know.

Just my two cents ,
Love,
02
