“Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State.”
— Mussolini
If all the jobs created are government jobs, and if all the private sector jobs disappear, then the trains will run on time. Or something.
Government employees do not pay taxes.
Unless they have some source of outside the government income, they just go through the motions every January-April.
I figured this out when at the ripe old age of 18 and I got my first paycheck as a Marine and read my first “Leave and Earning Statement.”
It said that I had paid X dollars in Income Tax.
No, I didn’t.
They just didn’t give it to me.
Then the government must still have that ‘X’ dollars, right?
No, they don’t. It’s just a number in a computer somewhere. No actual dollars changed hands.
My paycheck came out of taxpayers’ money that actually do work outside the government, and they pay according to their income levels.
Now, let’s expand that all the way out to just ONE GUY paying actual real taxes.
The entire government would be funded by just him.
He would have to make one helluva paycheck to cover all the government requires.
Now, let’s say he quits his job, leaves the country and retires.
Who is going to pay the taxes to support the government?
If EVERYBODY works for the government or receives government support in the form of welfare, subsidy or contract, then there is nobody left to actually pay the taxes to keep it going.
Ayn Rand had it right.
