It’s another horrific, tragic story, the likes of which we’ve been seeing all too often these days. A convict serving a 16-year sentence for a home invasion and aggravated assault was released early in Illinois in early March, and the very next day, he invaded the Chicago apartment of Laterria Smith and stabbed her and her 11-year-old son, killing the boy.
The brave youngster was trying to save his mother from the attack, and was stabbed in the chest.
The killer, Crosetti Brand, 37, who was previously in a relationship with Smith, was let loose on March 10. He was cut free even though he'd sent threatening texts to her in January and had a long rap sheet of domestic abuse.
The chair of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board, Donald Shelter, and board member LeAnn Miller resigned in disgrace after the outcry against Brand’s release and the senseless death of the young boy. Miller was an appointee of Illinois' Democrat Governor JB Pritzker.

One Republican state senator has seen enough and is outraged by Gov. JB Pritzker and the Prison Review Board for their soft-on-crime policies.
"I'm sick to my stomach over it (the killing)," Republican Illinois state Sen. Jason Plummer told Fox News Digital. "I heard the news, and I was just disgusted."
"The governor is the one doing this and this boy is dead," he added. "For the last three years, the governor of Illinois has taken a cavalier and reckless attitude towards the Prisoner Review Board and criminal justice in general."
He placed the blame squarely at the feet of the progressive Pritzker:
"The governor is the one doing this and this boy is dead," he added. "For the last three years, the governor of Illinois has taken a cavalier and reckless attitude towards the Prisoner Review Board and criminal justice in general."
He also posted an angry missive to Twitter/X:
When the public finally learns the lengths @GovPritzker went over several years to manipulate the system and empower unqualified & extreme activists to the Prisoner Review Board over our objections, they will be outraged. J.B. Pritzker is the most dangerous governor in America. https://t.co/l5DLiErObo— Jason Plummer 🇺🇲 (@JasonPlummerUSA) March 28, 2024
Not only was Perkins a hero for trying to save his mother, he seems to have been a wonderful kid. He loved to dance:

Stories like this hurt the heart to write, to read, to process. I cannot for the life of me fathom what goes through the minds of leftists like Pritzker or criminal-loving District Attorneys like Los Angeles' George Gascón. How much more evidence do they need to see that their "soft-on-crime" policies just invite mayhem and that "criminal justice reform" simply isn't working? How many cities have to be brought to ruin, how many more senseless deaths will people have to suffer through before they get through their heads something that's obvious to most rational individuals: criminals must be treated like criminals. Crime must be punished.
It's quite sad, what's happening in America.
The douchebag who let the killer out needs to do some time “without parole”.
Nobody says how early the release was!?
Good news then: Most Illinois governors do 10 to 20.
Elect people who support criminals and hate law abiding citizens and you get what you should expect.
And I bet they never even notified Laterria Smith that this animal was back out on the street.
Yes. Illinois has nothing to be proud of.
Once again:
“Illinois is a Democratic stronghold and one of the “big three” Democratic states alongside California and New York. It is considered one of the most Democratic states in the nation and following the 2018 elections, all six statewide elected offices are held by a Democrat.”
Another:
“In July 2023, the Illinois Supreme Court declared the legislation ending cash bail constitutional. Beginning on September 18, 2023, Illinois courts no longer use a cash bail system. Instead, they use a “pretrial release” system.”
The 16 year sentence seems to originate 3/13/2020 from previous charges. With this guys history he should stay locked away.

Man those Amish are vicious.
Brand was first paroled last October before being briefly incarcerated in February after he “threatened” a female via text, police said after the attack. He was arrested in 2015 for the home invasion with intent to cause injury crime, given 16 years, which means he shouldn't have been released until 2031 if he'd done his whole bid. He had prior prison sentences, and because he violated his releases, those previous sentences may have been included in the 16 year sentence.
This is his record for the 16 year sentence he received.

See my post at #11.
I would make it that the official or judge that lets them go needs to fill out the rest of the prison term (or what they would have received) alongside the criminal.
The threats alone should’ve kept him in prison for the entire sentence. Thank you for the link.
Regards,
Prayers to Jayden Perkins! Illinois needs to stop electing Democrats or you’ll more of these stories!
Pritzger, like Biden, has blood on his hands.
If we had a Republican Party here in Illinois they’d already be running ads about this.
Sadly, we don’t.
L
Parole board is more guilty. Why are the names. Makes it fake news as it’s meant to push buttons rather than report the truth.
That was my first question.
