Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. The crew of a Russian Su-34 bomber pulled off an extraordinary feat when they opted not to eject after the plane was struck by an anti-aircraft missile from Ukrainian forces. Instead, they managed to land the damaged aircraft at the nearest airport, as reported by military correspondent Kiril Fedorov. It’s important to note that the Fedorov claim hasn’t been officially confirmed by Russian authorities.
While Fedorov kept the pilots’ identities under wraps, he shared key details of the incident. The missile connected with the Su-34 at an altitude exceeding 9 km, striking the rear hemisphere. The impact caused several onboard systems to fail. Despite the severity of the situation, the pilots decided to forego ejection and aimed to land the aircraft safely. Remarkably, they accomplished this, and the damaged plane is now slated for repair. According to Fedorov, the brave airmen were later honored with the Order of Courage.
The Su-34, a two-seater frontline jet bomber, was heavily engaged in the airstrike, operating as a carrier of planting bombs. To deploy these bombs, the planes ascend to heights above 9 km, where the thin atmosphere and frigid temperatures - below minus 50 degrees Celsius - pose additional challenges.
